10 Rap CD Reviews for November 2006

I thought that I would give you the heads up on the following rap CD's I reviewed for the November 2006, StreetMasters Magazine edition. You'll want to check these reviews out before you go buy that wack CD. Depending on how many readers I get, I will have January CD reviews within the next few weeks. And, if that goes well I will continue providing you with CD reviews.

StreetMasters Magazine CD Review by Mr. Rogers

Bleu Davinci presents...The World Is B.M.F's Vol 2
KOCH
Records

Production: You'll love tracks one, three, four, five, six, 11, 14, 15 and 16. You will also hear two rappers that sound like Juvenille and Mace. But the real disappointment is that theres only nine good tracks out of 16. (B-)

Lyrics: This CD contains real gangsta lyrics with words like.............and so on. It is also ghetto fabulous, and somewhat laid back.

Concept: If B.M.F. stands for Black Mafia Family than it should be understood that Bleu Davinci's group, B.M.F, raps about mob shit. In their lyrics they proclaim to be hood rich, and ghetto.

Consistency: Bleu Davinci bumps tracks three, four, five, and six in a row, and tracks fourteen, fifteen and sixteen. Out of sixteen tracks he only has nine good tracks and four of them play back to back. ( C )

Originality: Two out of sixteen tracks sound like tracks you've heard before. One in particular, sounds like an old Juvenile track. ( C- ) because you didn't try to mix it up or disguise it.

Sentence: Listen to tracks one, three, four, five, six, eleven, fourteen, and sixteen so that you can hear what good tracks sound like. You need to produce more hardcore beats, and send your rappers to the school of hardknocks. Only two of your rappers sound hardcore the rest are rudy poots. Five years in San Quinton.

BIG RICH
BLOCK TESTED . HOOD APPROVED
KOCH
Records

Big Rich's Block Tested Hood Approved has seven mediocore tracks out of 18 (two, four, six, seven eight, 11 and 13). Everything is mixed and mastered well; It's just that the music isn't crunk enough for this rapper, plus his hooks could be better.

Lyrics: Gangsta, explicit, hood.

Concept: Big Rich. Young Black "gangster" Entreprenuer. "Part time rapper, full time hustler".

Consistency: The only tracks that Big Rich consistently bumps back to back are tracks six, seven and eight. (D-) for consistently bumping some garbage.

Originality: (A+) for producing tracks never heard of before now.

Sentence: Whatever you paid E-40 for rapping on track 13, you need to double that for him to do your hooks and tracks, and fire your producers / musicians.

GOLDEN CHILD
EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN
CLOCKRUSH MUSIC

Production: The Golden Child and Clockrush Music put together some cool, smooth, hip-hop beats accompanied with crispy clear sounding vocals, horns, pianos and guitar melodies.

Lyrics: Explicit, poetic, metaphorically and exceptionally good with words like hypnosis, diagnosis, persevere, congruent, parallel and martyr. The Golden Child has an unlimited vocabulary.

Concept: A real hip-hop, Hardknock M.C. -aka- The Golden Child.

Consistency: A+) for keeping it non-stop; Hip-hop.

Originality: (B-) due to the fact you used a sample from an old back track. Possibly David Ruffin, track seven.

Sentence: It is suggested that you rush back to the studio and immediately commence to making some hardcore hip-hop beats, and instrumentals. Overall, you deserve three mic's, for providing the streets with nine good songs out of seventeen.

TRILLTOWN MAFIA
IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING
Rap-A-Lot Records

Production: The beats are okay, k, k and the hooks are fire. Tracks two, three, six, seven, 14, 18, 19 and 20 made the cut but only because of the beats and hooks. On the tracks that didn't make the cut, they didn't make it because your instrumentals are wack; for example, track nine....

Lyrics: Mildly explicit, gangsta and a little crunk. Once again the hooks are the best; not the raps.

Concept: Trilltown Mafia's concept is to show that they are as trill, and gangsta as the next click.

Consistency: (D-) Because there is know consistency in banging tracks back to back nor does Trilltown keep you crunk like Trillville.

Originality: (A+) for producing some original tracks and fire as hooks.

Sentence: $30,000 fine to the owners and producers at Rap-A-Lot Records for promoting this Weak As Fake As Punk As CD, plus two years in Texas Fededral Penitentiary for Trilltown Mafia, for perpetrating a Fraud.

UNK
BEAT'N DOWN YO BLOCK
KOCH
Records

Production: "Beat'n Down Yo Block", has 13 crunk / club tracks out of 19. The only tracks that aren't banging hard enough are tracks four, five, six, 12, 13 and 17; And that's just our opinion.

Lyrics: In UNK's own words, " I'm poppin my collar. I'm grippin that wood. My cush in my hand. My trunk, beatin good. If it's knockin, they jockin. Feel that bass, that's a hobby. Be through yo hood them kickers kick off in yo ass like karate."

Concept: It ain't no secret that DJ UNK's missioin is not only to beat down yo block but to make sure that you can feel him in the hood, on the radio, and in the club.

Consistency: (A+) for consistently bumping that bass and flowing like Niagara Falls on tracks seven, eight, nine 10, 11 (five in a row), 14, 15, and 16 (three in a row) as well as tracks 18 and 19 (two in a row).

Originality: Five mic's for originality.

Sentence: HUNG JURY

FUrious Stiles
First Two Letters In My Name
Mentalee Ill Records

Production: The beats are okay, and the instrumentals sound like something off of a cartoon. Out of 15 tracks; Tracks 11, and 12 were the best. Take the (F)out of FUrious and that's his grade.

Lyrics: Real simple simon, rhymes.

Concept: He thinks he's the best rapper out there. He sounds like a wana be Jay Z, that needs some work.

Consistency: The only songs FUrious Stiles bumps in a row are tracks 11, and 12. Other words there is know consistency whatsoever. (F)

Originality: FUrious deserves an (A) for creating some original tracks, and lyrics.

Sentence: Overall this CD get's a (F). Your titles, your hooks, and your music needs alot of work. Four years of music lessons, and two years in training at Roc-A-Fella Records.

C. RAY
MEMPHIS TENSION
THE RAY BROS.

Production: C Ray started out fine on track one with "Welcome To My Neighborhood" originally done by Laydirty. Then he came back and bumped track two. After that his production dropped. He only bumped three other tracks (tracks six, nine and 13).

Lyrics: C Ray's lyrics are simple enough for a 12 year old to comprehend, but explicit.

Concept: A real nigga -aka- the fake rap replacement.

Consistency: (F) for failing to be consistent after bumping tracks one and two.

Originality: (B-). One sample on track eight.

Sentence: Twelve months a piece for you and your brother creating more tracks like tracks one, two, six, nine and 12. Plus stop singing. That's why tracks five, and 10, didn't make the list, and your instrumentals on tracks 15, and 16, suck. They are too loud, and annoying. Overall don't get disgusted. You can rap your ass off.

TOO SHORT
BLOW THE WHISTLE
JIVERECORDS

Production: Excellent instrumentals, and drum tracks. Good clarity. Crystal clear vocals on the mixing, hooks, singing, backgrounds and rappin. (B-) for bumping nine out of sixteen tracks (one through seven, and 10, and 11).

Lyrics: "Wouldn't be so bad if you only stripped, but you don't do dances, just lonely tricks." That's a sample of what you'll hear when you go out and cop this CD, plus Too Short's famous five letter word. Bi***!

Concept: Club, Ghetto, Ridin, House party, Pimp type, Big baller music.

Consistency: (A+) for keeping it strictly pimpin on all 16 tracks, especially track 10.

Originality: Too Shorts an O.G. to the rap game and he's an original gangster in the studio. Who elese but Too Short would do a rap called 16 Hoes............ Five Mic's

Sentence: Although Too Short had nine bumping tracks out of sixteen he could do better. Therefore it is suggested that he go back to the basics by referring to one of his old albums, "Freaky Tales". This Album deserves three mic's. Released on your own recognisance.

C-MURDER
THE TRU STORY... CONTINUED
KOCH
Records

Production: Finally, some real gutta, gutta rap music and lyrics. Out of six new tracks and 13 original tracks, C Murder comes hard on 11 tracks not counting the intro, outro and skits. The tracks to listen to, are tracks one, three, five, six, eight, 10, 11, 12 15, 16 and 20.

Lyrics: "I'm hooked on phonics, that bionic. Chase it down with chronic, that blue bonic". "And fuck five-o. We all gonna die, so. It's the element of sur-vi-val. Drive by and hy-dro. I'm laughin but ain't shit funny. I'm so sick man. I'm addicted to that fast money".

Concept: Buck. Hot. Thuggin. Gutta. Gangsta.

Consistency: (A)

Originality: C Murder raps over Akon's "I'm Locked Up", track 11. (B+)

Sentence: Three mic's.

DOUBLE O
IF THIS WORLD WAS MINE
KINGDOM KUM RECORDS

Production: The New Breed of Criminals Entertainment and Kingdom Kum Records put together 17 tracks of boom box, club banging, player type tracks. Three and a half mic's for bumping tracks three, four, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12 and 15.

Lyrics: Hardcore, Gangsta, Pimpin, and very explicit

Concept: Besides spittin tha real, and bangin on wax, Double' O says that he's " a motherf***** gangsta with a hollow point G", trying to bring back tha gangsta walk.

Consistency: Give Double' O a (B+) for bumping tracks six through 12, in a row.

Originality: Besides trying to get a rep off of the title "Gangsta Walk", Double' O deserves an (A-) for originality. Good job.

Sentence: Mistrial. Case Dismissed.
