The day I knew I was going to get my first kiss, I spent 2 hours on the internet trying to look up all the techniques, the must-do's and do-not's, and worried about everything I ate. That night, sensing how nervous I was, I guess, my date, who was a head taller than me, smiled, held both my hands, leaned in and gave me a gentle, sweet kiss on my cheek. I think I fell a little in love with him then.

Now, a bit more experience later, I have come up with some things I adore about kissing, and some things you can't help wonder if has ever worked on any date.

1. Chapped lips - This might be a difficult, but it's the first impression concept. I look at your mouth when I think about kissing you and your lips are kind of right there. So, before your date, brush your lips as well - it smooths off the rough bits and then put on some lip balm.

2. Smoking, drinking and coffee - seeing how I love two out of the three, there is no way I would say, don't. But they do have strong after tastes. So drink water as well, gurgle and pop a mint maybe.

3. Gauge her reaction - some women are all for making out on the first date, some women like to shake hands. How do you know? Watch her reaction - is she stiffening up when you get too close? Is she leaning into you?

Always go in slow, pause before you kiss her, look into her eyes, and if she does not pull away, then you're good.

4. Foreplay - there is definitely foreplay for kissing. It's the date itself. When she laughs, when you brush hands, touch her hair, stroke her fingers/hand, you are setting a mood. If she does not seem responsive, slow it down. If not, don't maul her, just enjoy the process.

5. Le Kiss - whether it is in the car, at her door or in the house, do not kiss her with friends/family around. Touch her face a little - not put your hand on her nose type, but stroke her cheek a little type - it gives her time to decide. Tilt your head a little so your noses don't bump, and press your lips against hers. No tongues.

* Sometimes le kiss, might be a peck on the cheek, but don't underestimate it's power, because it matters.

Goof-ups : Something goes wrong, you pour ice-cold water down her dress or knock her glasses off while you are kissing. Whatever. It's fine. Laugh it off - you guys like each other enough to get to this point, so why worry about the little things?
