10 things you should know before buying a puppy/dog

Include De wormer, Parvo, Distemper.(Rabies if over 6 months) it is a good idea to keep the health records/rabies cert. in a binder.
2. Make sure you pick a well respected veterinarian.
3. Make sure you have enough time to groom daily. Keeping a grooming kit will be very handy including a brush, comb, and nail clippers. Brushing or combing your new puppy will help you become close to your puppy and your puppy will become closer to you. If you have a long hair dog this is going to take a lot of time grooming make sure you are willing to do this. You may consider keeping it short or in a puppy cut.
4. Make sure you have a First Aid Kit handy also include peroxide, rubbing alcohol, any other medicine recommended for your new puppy or dog.
5. Make sure you can take your puppy/dog for daily walks or have an area for your puppy/dog to run. Depending on what size dog you have or the type of dog you have will determine the exercise he or she will need. You can check with your vet to find out what is needed for the type of dog you are going to get before you get your new best friend.
6. Puppy or Dog food- It is recommended to use the best puppy or dog food. Royal Canine is a very good brand also Eukanuba. Buying the right puppy/dog food can save your dog’s life. Ask your local pet store or breeder what kind is best for your new family member. Don’t forget to have clean water daily for your new puppy/dog. If it is hot out you may need to refill the bowl more often.
7. Make sure you choose the correct breed of dog for your lifestyle. You are going to have him or her around for the next 10 to 15 years.
8. If you have young children think of their hobbies, and what activities they do daily. Is this dog going to be able to go with you places? Does your dog need to run or likes to sit?
9. Train your dog means training you and your family too. Have fun with your new puppy. Take him or her to the pet store and buy a new toy. Your dog and you will love the time together. Take your puppy/dog to obedience classes. You will learn a lot of great ideas to keep you and your family happy. Use a collar and leash when you take your dog places. Make sure you have Id tag on your dog. You can have your vet put in an micro chip if you want. It will help find your dog if he or she is lost or stolen. Do you need a fence or invisible fence? How much will it cost?
10. Dog proofing your home. Just like having a baby around. Don’t let your new friend eat coins, plants, small toys that come apart (eyes, nose). These things are very costly and can kill your dog or make him/her very sick. Keep your new friend happy and you will be happy. Most of all make sure this is what you want to do before you buy a new puppy or dog. You can check with akc.org for more info.
Bonus 11. Spay or neuter your pet by 3-6 months old. This can prevent a surprise in the future.
12. You can train your dog to be litter box trained or crate trained. If you give your puppy/dog his own bed/pillow (room) he/she will be very happy and know where he is to go to lay down. You can call it go to your room or place and make him/her lay down. This will create a safe area for your new puppy/dog. Now go and pick up your new friend and have fun!
