2008 Beijing Olympic Medals-With a Twist
The 2008 Beijing Olympics will feature the old olympic mainstay-victory medals. However, the athletes won't be competing for the same old gold medal. The Beijing olympic medals will be inlaid with circles of Chinese jade.
Every olympics does a slight variation on the regular medals, but the 2008 Beijing Olympics will take it farther than ever before with their circles of jade. The circles, which are 7mm in diameter and 3.5-4mm thick, will be set into the backs of the olympic medals. For gold medals it will be white jade, silver medals whitish-green jade, and bronze medals green jade. All 3,030 Beijing Olympic medals will be made out of jade from the Kunlun Mountains in China, and gold, silver, and bronze from Australia and Chile. They will be made at the Shanghai Mint.
