2008: The Year of the Anti-Incumbent
posted September 12, 2008 - 9:27pmI am already on the record as saying that I am not voting for either the McCain/Palin Republican ticket or the Obama/Biden Democratic ticket. There was a time when I would have voted for Obama just to cancel out a Republican vote, but then I woke up and realized that I would be doing the work of this country's destroyers for them. Not my deal.
So, what then? On principle, but just barely, I would write in Ron Paul for President. His ideas make sense and would go a long way to restoring the Constitution that I've come to know and love.
The only problem with writing in Dr. Paul for President is that he would have to deal with Congress. If Pro is the opposite of Con, what is the opposite of Congress? Exactly.
The way the system is rigged by those who really control our government and who get to decide which policies Congress is going to discuss don't care who holds the title of Congressman of California's 22nd district. They will still be there regardless of who wins.
What is the answer then? Here is my opinion. We should make 2008 the year of the anti-incumbent. No matter who is holding office in whichever level of government for which you are going to cast your vote, vote for whoever is not the incumbent. There are often two or three other choices on the ballot, depending on office, that couldn't do any worse than the individual currently wearing the title.
Imagine if we were able to completely replace all 435 members of the House, all 100 members of the Senate, and everyone at the state, county, and city level. There would be so much confusion and inefficiency that the new members would not be able to focus on anything other than learning about each other. Granted, senators serve for six years, but a good chunk of them are up for reelection at any given time.
With President Bush being a lame duck, we cannot do the anti-incumbent bounce for him. We can, however, not vote for the Republicrats or Dempublicans, since they are both saying the same thing with a slightly different twist. What we can do is vote for a suitable write-in where available or vote for someone in a third-party on principle.
Former president John F. Kennedy once said, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable." As the police thugs at the Republican National Convention proved, we may already be at the point in our nation's history where peaceful revolution is impossible. Only time will tell.
