2008: The Year of the Anti-Incumbent

2008: The Year of the Anti-Incumbent

I am already on the record as saying that I am not voting for either the McCain/Palin Republican ticket or the Obama/Biden Democratic ticket. There was a time when I would have voted for Obama just to cancel out a Republican vote, but then I woke up and realized that I would be doing the work of this country's destroyers for them. Not my deal.

So, what then? On principle, but just barely, I would write in Ron Paul for President. His ideas make sense and would go a long way to restoring the Constitution that I've come to know and love.

The only problem with writing in Dr. Paul for President is that he would have to deal with Congress. If Pro is the opposite of Con, what is the opposite of Congress? Exactly.

The way the system is rigged by those who really control our government and who get to decide which policies Congress is going to discuss don't care who holds the title of Congressman of California's 22nd district. They will still be there regardless of who wins.

What is the answer then? Here is my opinion. We should make 2008 the year of the anti-incumbent. No matter who is holding office in whichever level of government for which you are going to cast your vote, vote for whoever is not the incumbent. There are often two or three other choices on the ballot, depending on office, that couldn't do any worse than the individual currently wearing the title.

Imagine if we were able to completely replace all 435 members of the House, all 100 members of the Senate, and everyone at the state, county, and city level. There would be so much confusion and inefficiency that the new members would not be able to focus on anything other than learning about each other. Granted, senators serve for six years, but a good chunk of them are up for reelection at any given time.

With President Bush being a lame duck, we cannot do the anti-incumbent bounce for him. We can, however, not vote for the Republicrats or Dempublicans, since they are both saying the same thing with a slightly different twist. What we can do is vote for a suitable write-in where available or vote for someone in a third-party on principle.

Former president John F. Kennedy once said, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable." As the police thugs at the Republican National Convention proved, we may already be at the point in our nation's history where peaceful revolution is impossible. Only time will tell.

Statism vs. Freedom

You are a statist because you believe the solution to everything must come from either a Republican or Democrat winning an election, preferably the Republican. It doesn't matter to you that both parties are offering the same exact thing with slightly different packaging: more war, more taxes, less freedom, less Constitution. Do either McCain or Obama promise to restore the Constitutional freedoms and liberties stripped by the Patriot Act? No. Do either McCain or Obama promise to lower taxes and the cost of living for ordinary Americans? No. Trying to pick a candidate, Eggs, is like trying to decide whether a kick in the crotch or punch in the nose is better. (I will probably write an article about it this weekend.) Either way, it will be painful and unnecessary. The only way for a person who doesn't want unneeded pain to participate is to select neither candidate. The point in dumping all the incumbents is to send a message to those who push for the status quo that we are fed up with the politics of "business as usual". It is doing something instead of settling for whichever bad choices are dangled in front of us every couple of years. They will spend more time learning their jobs than in passing bad rules and regulations and raising our taxes. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

Vote For "None Of The Above"

This year, the voter is faced with the perfect storm - An out of touch Republican and an inexperienced Democrat. Third party candidates will probably receive a greater percentage of the vote than is typical. Even so, I will most likely gamble on an unknown vs. a maverick who is demonstrating that his mavericking days are over as he becomes closely aligned to the party machine to garner votes from the far right.

This is every where and it helps my cause and proves my point

Calling the President names that do not apply help only the one who is supposed to be getting the coals heaped on their heads. Thanks liberal writers. I wondered how saying I am not going to vote for anybody gives an individual the authority over authority. One smart thing was mentioned when it was said getting rid of all congress and senate members is not a solution at all and would only cause chaos. When you use Kennedy's quote at the end you make me laugh. He used peace through strength when dealing with Russia on the night that stood still. Peace through strength means a knot tied already does not have to be pulled tighter by each side pulling in opposite directions. At least that is what Russia said and left Cuba.
