2009 Macy's 4th of July Fireworks in New York - Back on the Hudson River
posted July 3, 2009 - 1:14pmMacy's 4th of July fireworks is headed back to the Hudson River for 2009. In honor of the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson sailing down the river that bears his name and discovering Manhattan, Macy's will be firing off its 2009 4th of July fireworks extravaganza from barges on the Hudson River. For New Jersey folks like me, that's an extra special treat.
The Macy's fireworks display starts at 9 p.m. Saturday night, July 4th. For details on where to view the fireworks and how to get to get there, see the official Macy's 4th of July fireworks Web site.
Fireworks barges will be set up in the Hudson River from 23rd to 50th Streets. Macy's suggests heading for 12th Avenue anywhere below 59th Street for the best viewing locations. Their site lists the various access points along 11th Avenue where you can get onto 12th Avenue.
And if you're on the New Jersey side of the Hudson, there are many good viewing locations at the various parks and other waterfront spots along the river.
You can listen to the fireworks soundtrack on New York news radio station 1010 WINS (1010 AM), or if you can't see it live you can watch it on TV on NBC, Channel 4.
Happy 4th of July!
