2012 : The Year The Internet Ends

End of Internet by Year 2012 ?

Free and easy access to Internet as we know now is slated to end as evident from recent developments on the discussion tables between significant internet providers and content provids.

News is almost every significant Internet provider around the globe is currently in talks with access and content providers to transform the internet into a television-like medium. That translates into -

  • no more freedom
  • you pay for a small commercial package of sites you can visit
  • you'll have to pay for seperate subscriptions for every site that's not in the package

LIke with other media multinationals with big budgets will brute force their content into Internettoo. Almost all smaller websites/services will disappear over time. Internet will no longer be free.

Sounds scary, but that is roughly the scenario we are headed. Is there a way out? Probably yes.....
