20 Free And Easy Ways to Increase Traffic

You need a steady flow of visitors to have a successful Internet business. But, how do you increase traffic to your site without paying an arm and a leg? Use these 20 free and easy techniques to increase traffic to your site.

Use a signature file in forums that links to your site.

Answer questions on Yahoo Answers and quote your website as the source.

Review a product or company. If your review is positive, email the company and ask for an ad (or link) on their site.

Write articles and submit them to article directories.

Add an RSS subscribe link in a high profile area on your site.

Add a ‘bookmark this site’ link in a high profile section of your site.

Submit your RSS feed to feed directories.

Post comments on blogs and link back to your site.

Optimize the titles of your pages for keywords that people are searching for.

Trade mutual website reviews with other webmasters.

Include a link to your site on sites like MySpace.

Create a freebie product to give away (ebook, software, etc.).

Submit your site to at least one hundred free directories.

Hold a competition or contest on your site. One month later post the results on your site and email everyone who entered.

Good post on increasing traffic. I particularly like the ones about submitting to directories and backlinking. Traffic, in and of itself, doesn't help with income, but directed traffic (traffic through a search engine) will blast your income. This post for instance has very relevant ads about increasing traffic. If a person finds this post through a search engine, he is likely to click an ad because he is searching for something that the ad relates to. If he just finds this post randomly, he probably will not be interested in any of the ads. The key, as Nick and Baldwin talked about in the workshop, is to make the search engines love you! Do a search for Hawaii Haka, and you'll see that Going2Oahu posts are three out of ten on page one - you have to make the search engines love you!
