$45 Trillion Needed to Combat Global Warming
$45 Trillion Needed to Combat Global Warming
The world needs to invest $45 trillion in energy in coming decades, build some 1,400 nuclear power plants and vastly expand wind power in order to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, according to an energy study released Friday.
energy | expand | gas emissions | greenhouse | power plants | Science | wind power
Only $45 trillion? That sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

The estimate does not include the remediation of damage to air land and sea.
Shallybyte, good to see you have these interests. And will post about them! There are a variety of locations that you can use to formulate real applicable values for such an estimate. I wish to point out the cost to the environment is likely not factored into the estimate -- simply by not using eMergy or similar valuations.
When a process causes an extinction it is forever lost, and so is it's potential. I expect new critters to evolve or learn to fill a niche so vacated, but point out: Time for life on Earth is limited. For life we are familiar with and a part of, the time past is larger than the time ahead -- because of inexorable climate change that is a consequence of astrophysics.
I hope we can limit the expenses to $45 trillion in abandoning Fossil C. The CO2 dilemma and solution requires it's removal from air, that life on earth can continue. I fear that to remove the legacy CO2, vastly more than 45 trillion will be needed.
One other thing. The report you site may be attention getting, but it is very wrong. 99% by 2060 will not save the human species.
IEA just does not want to tell the facts that things are much worse than their approach can remedy. This is the "business as usual group trying to put a face that saves their asses from the people they are trying to exploit. See thru it.
