5 Natural insomnia cures to try before taking mediciation
posted December 31, 2008 - 10:04amFollowing are 5 insomnia cures, these are all natural. I have tried them all. Cure 1 works the best for me, also, it can be used in combination of the other cures.
Cure 1. My favorite
You lying in bed, you can’t sleep. Get up. Repeat the routine of the last 20 minutes of your typically evening. E.G. you watch a little TV, have a glass of water, say goodnight to the pets, brush your teeth and go back to bed. Often the second time around, its so nice to get back into a warm bed that you fall asleep quickly.
Cure 2. Stop thinking
Harder said than done, but it’s often our busy minds that keep us awake.
A relaxation book I read years ago said that as soon as you start to ponder on a subject that you have to say the words “thinking thinking thinking, etc” in your head over and over again every time you start to get transfixed on a subject.
Typically we get stuck on negative subjects, maybe something somebody has done that upsets us. Consider what you are doing, there is nothing you can fix lying in bed and chewing over a low point of your day is only going to breed negativity.
Cure 3: Chamomile tea or teas claiming to promote sleep.
These are typically made of natural herbs, I have a nice one that’s called “Sleepy time” and it’s a mixture of chamomile and mint. These natural herbs do work in my opinion. They are certainly soothing drinks.
Cure 4: Rosemary and lavender oils.
These are said to aid relaxation, put a few drops of one of these essential oils near your bed, even if they don’t work they smell great.
Cure 5: Breathing.
Breath in over 4 seconds, hold it for a second or so, then breath out over a few seconds, then hold it again. Repeat this at a rate that is comfortable for you and listen to your breathing. This also has the benefit of taking your focus away from anything that is keeping your mind busy.
Good Night!
