$700 Billion Bailout Plan Unveiled...The Party is Over
posted September 28, 2008 - 10:14pmCongress has approved the historic bailout plan which could put out up to $700 billion to fix the financial meltdown. The Senate hopes to act on the legislation by Wednesday. $250 billion would be immediately available to the U.S. Treasury.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi said "We sent a message to Wall Street: the party is over."
Lawmakers are hoping that the cost to the U.S. taxpayer will be much less than the investment because of the value of the assets would be recovered when they are sold. The bill also calls for legislation to recoup any net losses to taxpayers after 5 years of the plans enactment from the financial industry.
