The band is said to be considering writing some new songs that will be released along with a greatest-hits box set, according to the fan site Stingus.net.

The stable of aging rock music bands reuniting for tours or albums is already crowded, but there might be one big heavy hitter coming down the road: The Police.
Rumors are rife that the trio, which burst onto the scene 30 years ago with the hit tune "Roxanne," will reunite for concert dates this year in the U.K. and the U.S.--their first live shows since they disbanded in 1986.
Plans for the Police tour are in the works, according to Billboard.com, but details are being kept under wraps until all the arrangements are made final.
Last month the band's record label, A&M Records, said, "It is our intention to mark the anniversary by doing something special with the band's catalog of songs. Needless to say, everyone is hopeful the band will support our plans and while early discussions have taken place, nothing has been decided."
Several weeks after Billboard reported this story, Sting is on record as mentioning the band's anniversary, saying, "We started 30 years ago so it would be nice to do something to celebrate. We don't quite know what, but we're talking about it."
In addition to the possible Police tour, there has been talk of more Police merch being issued, including DVD releases and another multiple-disc CD collection. This will probably complement the box set of studio recordings and rarities that was issued more than a decade ago.
Sting, the lead singer for The Police, has had a successful solo career in rock music since the breakup, issuing a number of albums, and last year he branched out with a CD of medieval lute tunes, "Songs from the Labryrinth," issued on the presitgious classical music label Deutsche Grammophon.
