a childhood i missed
posted February 28, 2007 - 1:17pmIt was one of those winter days spent in a cabin somewhere deep in the woods out-skirting a freshly frozen lake. Like a child who finds the absolute thrill of life in the simplest of activities- the morning would greet us with parental smiles, overwhelming invasions of falling snow flakes sealed safely behind glass window panes, and the sweet untouchable aroma of stove heated hot chocolate mixed with the stale musty smell of the simple old cabin.
Night fall would drag along like a patient feline waiting in the brush to prey the night. The old heating furnace crackled a popped until it conformed to my pulse and taunted my young conscience into truly believing I was not alone, and soon would be awoken by a figure whose appearance ran wild in my youthful imagination.
Back then my dreams and adventures went higher than a bird in flight, whose wings could span the sun and swiftly erase moving pieces of day. I too could conquer time, turning clocks backward as if I were a cosmic power untamed by the earthly realities and physical borders all others were condemned to.
