a christmas miracle...
posted December 24, 2006 - 7:54pmso i'm sitting at home... watching phil rivers remind everyone that he's a kid in a game of men. the announcers are marvelling at the 20+ seconds he's wasted trying to put together a 60-yard-drive starting at the two-minute warning with no time outs left. the seahawks had just clinched the
division w/ a san fransisco loss. rivers had looked shaky all game long, along with the rest of his team. tomlinson's head-to-head matchup with LAST year's record-setting mvp running back resulted in alexander taking the punk kid to school w/ 2 td's to l.t.'s none. baltimore was poised to claim top spot in the afc (assuming they beat buffalo next week...) w/ san diego AND indiannapolis losses.
& then the seattle secondary stood by & watched vincent jackson run by them on his way to catch the winning touchdown... & just like that, rivers became a miracle-worker. understand this... there was NO WAY that the football gods were going to allow that ending. san diego looked hopelessly confused as they tried to contend with the loudest crowd in football. seattle... well, seattle is coached by mike holmgren. mike holmgren's made a career of not losing games his team shouldn't lose.
but i dunno... i'd hate to call down the wrath of the football gods, but if san diego can beat arizona next weekend... i might just be inclined to think this might be their year.
what, arizona? don't forget that the cardinals have won 3 of their last 4. & if they can catch the chargers looking past them like the rams & seahawks did... then they get the title of "spoilers" for this season. & i'll personally start predicting big things from them for next year.
i don't like their chances, sure... but they had an easier time beating seattle than san diego did. that's gotta count for SOMETHING against the defending nfc champs.
