A Normal Summer's Day

They walked down to the beach,
Hand in hand.

They sat in the sand, watching the waves.
Bright sun, blue sky.

He gave a pump of the hand. A grin.
His hair danced in the wind.

Children played tag. Kites flew.
A piper pecked at the shore.

His hand rubbed behind the neck,
Down onto the back.

No one glared. No one cringed.
No parents tsk-tsked.

The tide rolled up to their feet.
It was a normal summer's day.

Splintered sunlight through the blinds--
He awoke.

Dream of a gay man living in America.
