A Strippers Diary - I just give them something to think about. Part 3
posted March 29, 2008 - 9:02amO.K., so where was I... oh yea pool. I started to learn to play pool in my second month of dancing. I was never one of those dancers that would sit at the bar drinking when the club was slow. I always found something to keep my brain occupied. Usually I just found someone to play pool with. I learned from the pool sharks that would come in every week to practice. They were all members of a league that played at another bar near by. I guess there were times where the bar wasn't all that slow and I could have been making money by walking around instead of playing pool but I don't regret spending that time to learn. In the end, knowing how to play pool has made me more money than you can imagine.
How does this work, you say? Well its quite simple by saying something unexpected. By being different. Thats what gets a customers attention. Instead of introducing myself and asking that almost robotic question "would you like a dance?" like every other dancer, I would introduce myself and ask "would you like to have a game of pool?". That will always get their attention. Not because they like pool. Because you have now caught them off guard. Usually they will say "thank you but maybe later" that is the answer they will give to the other girls with that robotic annoying question.
So now that you've got their attention and they are interested in knowing what you are all about. 75% of them will accept the invitation to play pool. Once back at the table I would now ask "so what do you want to play for?". Usually they laugh and I then say "well how about if I win, you have to buy a dance?" About half of them will agree without questioning what happens if they win. Others will say "what do I get if I win?" I will then tell them they can have 2 dances for $20 instead of one. Almost all customers will agree to this unless they are the young cocky type that has to win something better than a buy one get one free dance because they think they are too good for that. As a last resort I will then offer them a free dance if they win but only if I have watched them play a game first and I know I could beat them. Usually in that situation they are over confident and they end up trying a bunch of really hard shots to show off because they are so cocky and they end up losing anyways. In any situation I end up taking them for a dance. Now its not because I'm good at pool. It's because they like me for being different and taking them away from watching the same repetitive stage shows and answering the same repetitive question. I just gave them what they were looking for but didn't know it. I treated them like a human and not a ATM. I showed them a fun time and got them to do something different and fun while showing that I have some intelligence. They appreciate this and remember me for being different.
Dancing is not always about taking your clothes off. It's about entertaining. Showing him a good time and even sometimes making him feel like a friend or buddy who they can get away and hang out with and forget about everything else in their life. Someone who will laugh with them and cheer them up and entertain them.
Entertaining.. I have a different view on that word compared to most dancers. Well according to my stage show. I actually put a lot of effort into my shows.
I will have to tell you all about that next...
