Abhinav Bindra, The Golden Boy, became the hero for India the day he won the first Gold Medal in an individual event in the history of Indian Olympics. Abhinav Bindra won the gold medal Monday in the 10-meter air rifle competition. He is only 25 years old.

He arrived back home to India, yesterday, from Beijing to a very huge welcome at the airport. India gave a very warm welcome to their hero at the airport with drums and orchestra etc. All the bigshots from the sports ministry were there to greet him.

He went ahead to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to meet with the President, Shrimati Pratibha Patil and other important dignitaries like KPS Gill and the sports authorities from the Olympic Committee. The President congratulated him on his achievement.

He has also got an invitation from the Prime Minister, Mr Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi. When he was questioned about this, he very humbly replied that he was indeed honored to have received an invitation to meet them.

Bindra was honored when the Board of Control for Cricket in India rewarded him with a $59,000 bonus.

Abhinav Bindra has made India Proud with this "Golden Moment" . His name will be recorded in the history of the glory of sports in Indian Olympics. We hope that he will be back in the next Olympics too and also contribute to training more people to further the sport of shooting in India.
