Abortion: Pregnancy Termination or Human Termination?
posted October 4, 2009 - 2:36pmBefore getting into the subject of abortion, I want to discuss propaganda techniques. Why? Because of how these relate to the whole abortion issue.
In so many scenarios, something that is unpleasant or downright horrific can be made acceptable to the masses by simply changing the language used to describe it.
Words can be employed to convey positive impressions/messages or negative ones. In sum: change the language and you change public perception.
Propaganda has been used to change public perceptions about abortion.
Let's create two paragraphs. The first could be an advertisement by an abortion clinic, the second describes the hard reality of abortion. Notice how you feel reading them.
Pregnancy Termination
In modern times, women can make appropriate choices. Abortion is a safe and common medical procedure. In caring facilities and under qualified medical care, women can succesfully terminate unwanted pregnancies with conception products removed.
- This all sounds harmless doesn't it.? The expectant mother is shielded from the reality.
Propaganda is effective because it does not call a spade a spade. It changes language to make concepts more acceptable.
Now, let's eliminate the sanitization and describe the reality of abortion.
Human Termination
In modern times, women can kill the unborn with impunity. Human termination is carried out so that women rid themselves of unwanted babies. Developing, living children are torn asunder, dismembered, burned and suffocated--or, for partial birth abortion, their skulls are pierced with a sharp object and their brains sucked out so the skull collapses for easy removal. In painful termination procedures, tiny hands, little fingers, eye-lashes, hair, soft tummies and little toes are multilated and pared down into convenient, easy-to-remove chunks.
- Do you feel sickened reading the paragraph above? Do you feel offended?
This second paragraph, while gruesome, describes what actually takes place during abortion.
Questions Everyone Should Ask Themselves About Abortion: Speak No Evil, See No Evil . . .
- Why do words and terms used to describe abortion need to be sanitized?
- Why aren't expectant mothers allowed to see ultrasound pictures of their babies moving about in the womb?
- Why aren't mothers shown pictures of aborted babies?
- Why aren't women shown videos of actual abortions, to guage for themselves whether mere blobs of tissue are being removed?
- Why are mothers not shown what has been removed?
Now, some would argue that the whole subject is distressing enough without mothers being exposed to the horrifying reality. Hmm . . .
Cautionary note: pictures in video are heartbreaking

Abortion
* I guess graphic is open to interpretation. I was describing what actually takes place during abortion procedures. If someone feels this is too graphic, I ask them to think about the reality of what abortion does to the unborn.
While many abortions take place in the early stages, many later term abortions are still performed. The number of aborted babies born alive each year bears chilling testimony to this practice. Just look at the number of late-term abortions performed by Dr. Tiller.
Babies brains are forming from as early as two months. Silent Scream shows a baby in the first trimester struggling violently during an abortion.
* Whether a woman is shown her unborn child when she checks into an abortion clinic depends on the clinic. Generally, a curtain is drawn, since mothers tend to change their minds once they actually see the baby. While they may feel the child moving, this is not the same as actually seeing it on screen.
While pictures of aborted children are on the Internet as you correctly state, this does not mean that everyone has seen them. A frightened 14-year-old may never have seen pictures or hasn't had the courage to look. And until recently, pictures of later-term abortions weren't as readily available as they are now.
I remember reading about one young woman who was told it was fetal tissue. She was further along so they injected her with saline, which burns and suffocates the unborn child. She went into labor and delivered a child that was still alive and that cried. She said that no one told her that the child was developed to the point that it could cry, no one told her that it had a head, which, incidentally, she reached down and felt. This was a far cry from the "tissue" she thought she was passing.
Mothers should be fully informed of what is about to take place, so that down the road, they do not suffer regret or trauma upon learning the facts. In researching this subject, I come across account after account of young women who say they were not given the full picture. Abortion is a money-making undertaking in certain places and this could be a factor as to why women are shielded from the reality.
Informed consent should be just that. All patients should be fully informed before making such a life-altering decision. Again, my contention is that a frightened teenager may not have seen an abortion procedure video. I checked on YouTube and saw many videos of aborted babies but only found one or two showing an actual abortion in progress.
While in some places this may be possible, many times, the basin is covered and removed, under the guise of not traumatizing the patient.

Why do words and terms
They don't, but they also don't need to be made gratuitously graphic. Contrary to your "unsanitized" paragraph, the vast majority of fetuses are aborted in the first trimester, before they develop brains. Etc etc.
Showing an ultrasound picture is law in many states. It also needlessly infantilizes the pregnant woman. If her pregnancy is so far along that an ultrasound picture is showing the baby moving around in her womb, she's probably far enough to have FELT it moving.
I don't know anyone who hasn't seen a picture of an aborted baby. I grew up raised by a fundamentalist Catholic who regularly picketed the abortion clinic in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We had picket signs with graphic pictures of aborted babies in our garage, which I was exposed to from before I can remember. I am pro-choice.
Furthermore, those pictures are READILY available on the internet for any woman to CHOOSE to see. FORCING a woman to see it is unnecessary; those women now have the choice to go onto Google and view whatever it is they want to see.
Again, these videos exist on the internet. I'm sure you aren't arguing that women who procure abortions are unable to access the internet. If they want to see these videos, they can. If they don't want to, why force them?
If you choose to, you can see it.
