About Ken Light

Hello Xomba. I am Ken Light. Some of you know me, some of you despise me, some of you tollerate me, and the rest of you are wondering who this arrogant prick is who'd actually write a xombyte about himself. Well, let me tell you.

I'm an independent in every sense of the word. I don't comform to social norms, political party lines, or political correctness, nor do I succumb to any pressures to be or act like someone I am not. About the only thing I conform to is the Constitution of the United States as I think that document is wiser than I could ever hope to be because it was carefully constructed by a group of men, each of whom was probably wiser than I could ever be. I believe it is the single greatest text ever written, period.

So that makes me an American, and a passionate one. I'm a passionate person in general, but few things get me as heated as when someone tries to attack or denounce my country in any way, shape or form. I cherish deeply both their right to do so(at least verbally) and my right to fight back(again, verbally).

Oftentimes my passion leads me to upset people, but such is my nature and I will not change it. I play poker and, in poker, there is no mercy on the felt. I am merciless in battle and pull no punches(save for maybe the death blow), but that is only in battle. Outside of whatever debate or argument we may have I am a perfectly cool-headed rational human being who (probably) genuinely wants to be your friend.

I'm also a devout skeptic and scientist. I don't trust a single thing anyone tells me until I've checked the facts or at least checked the credibility of that person and thought about his/her motives for saying what they said exactly how they said it(again, see poker player, above). Often this leads me to beliefs that are controversial, but I want to make clear that I don't believe these things simply to be controversial, I believe them because this is where my independent thought process, driven by what I believe to be a formidable intelligence, has gotten me. Very very rarely do I make statements off-the-cuff, and when I do I think I make it clearly known. I also try to be funny here and there, rarely at the expense of others, but on occasion, I'm human, I go too far.

So I'm writing this, not because I am an arrogant prick, but because I DO tend to offend people, mostly people who are just meeting me for the first time. I thought maybe lifting the veil a bit would allow you all to understand that my words aren't attacks on you, they are attacks on your ideas. I would never attack you personally unless provoked to do so. So, hello Xomba, I hope we can be friends. Happy debating.
-Ken Light

Aren't these things dated?

I thought this was long buried. Oh well. "Thank you for driving carefully through the villiage." That's what the sign says.

not really...

to answer the question, the rating system doesn't do anything for me. BUT i would love to find out WHY someone didn't like an article i wrote, or ESPECIALLY a short story. what was wrong w/ it? that's part of the reason why i post on here: to improve my writing, not just through practice but through feedback. so seeing a low score w/o an explanation totally defeats the purpose of why i posted the thing in the first place.

interesting...

see, i haven't been following ken light's postings since i started my project of pulling another list of 5 more under-rated bands than lynyrd skynyrd & alice in chains out of my ass each week. [this week... it'll be YOUR list, 5 bands suggested by people calling/e-mailing me wondering why their under-rated bands haven't been in my first four editions] but i've noticed a tendency on the part of people like mr light to take this whole xomba thing far too seriously, without having the information at hand to engage in public debate. & like most american ventures, this has devolved into a group of people arguing about the "rules" of something which, by its very nature, is beyond "rules". me? i'm canadian. we're as patriotic as americans, under the surface, but we've all grown up under the spectre of the jingoistic nationalism of americans (love it or leave it? what if you love it enough to want to FIX it?). & as such, we've been reluctant to cram our jingoistic nationalism down other people's throats. it's... a canadian thing. if you love america, but don't know if you support the government, big business or citizens... you should come to canada, eh? america's junior partner, we've got all the good things about living in the free west without all the negative aspects of being AMERICAN. now, that'll all change once dubya bush is gone. outside of the usa, he's going to go down as the most evil man in history (worse than HITLER!!). at one time, i was concerned that he was gonna run the tanks down pennsylvania avenue & declare himself president-elect for life. fortunately, his people lost the senate & congress... so it's a little less likely now. but i digress... here's the question... not just for mr light, but for all of you. why is the rating system important? if someone gives you a low score... does that change anything? if they give you a high score... does that make your life better? naw, man. this is something a select group of us do for the fun of spouting our views on the internet. & with the anonymity of the internet comes the inevitability of people hiding behind their "xomba" indentities to take potshots at what other people think. & ken... i'm glad to hear that you've resolved not to be such an asshole in the future. here's hoping you'll arm yourself with knowledge before venturing into uncharted waters of opining. otherwise... i'm just gonna have to keep bringing people on board to point out the ignorance of your arguments...

or maybe not...

sorry ken...

cuz i'm gonna totally ignore your article in order to reply to sue here if i can. i know exactly what you mean, sue. i've gotten people giving me ONE STAR and not leaving a comment as to why. i'm starting to form the opinion that a person should be forced to leave a comment every time they vote... but then i hate "forcing" people to do anything. we do live in a supposedly "free" country after all. oh actually that reminds me, i think i will say something about this article. i don't ever knock the u.s. itself. the government, the politicians, and occassionally the citizens, yes. but not the country. i love america and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

very good point Sue

If people are going to leave negative scores than an explaination would be considerate otherwise it does appear that someone is just being shity because they can. See it is people like this that cause things to become like a dictatorship with all of these stupid ass rules. Always someone that has to abuse the system.

Not bad

Not a bad idea at all I must say. I often tell people I am just getting to know a bit about myself because I can say things the wrong way and be misunderstood. I don't generally say things with malice but sometimes they may be taken that way. This sort of post might be a great idea for other people to consider doing because it helps each of us to get to know each other better. It surely couldn't hurt, and it might help with the quote Xomba duels. lol Good work Mr. Light! I am impressed!

HAHAHA I know! All those

HAHAHA I know! All those little snippet articles like, "If you want to avoid bad weather, make sure you know the weather where you're going". I think she's just trying to get points. But the rating system really is hurtful. My articles are constantly getting bad ratings, but then I have only positive comments, so it doesn't make any sense. What I really think is that people vote you low so that they have a better chance of getting on the top rated spot. But thankfully it looks like Xomba's doing something to change it.

Somethin shady

I'm new to Xomba. Like I signed up for an account a month ago and forgot about it till the other day. I keep reading really great articles and then I look at the voting and its upsetting! Guy with the article "Hospital kills" had a 9 and he made up words! I read another one that was really good about Elvis Castello and it was like a seven. What's up with this? Do people jump on articles and give them bad scores for no reason? Or are the people voting retarded? I noticed The Frankenstein post has been knocked down and I wanna know why, but no one has posted anything negative as a comment. I don't understand. If you are going to vote poorly explain why. We can't better ourselves if we don't know what went wrong. All I know is I have only been here a short time and there is some shady business going on here. What's with the weird person posting all the recipes??? She creeps me out man - i mean is she really into pumpkin recipes that much???? Sounds like a scheme, like you click on the link to the recipe and she gets a click or something. Why else would you post all that random crap in a row? --Sue

The Light on The Light

Hey, Ken, thanks for this belated house-warming party. You're an independent? Wow, then we have something in common. Wait...if you're an independent and I'm an independent...then there must be millions of billions of fish, with millions of billions of opinions, swimming in the Sea of Independence. Sure you ain't just a Republican who's afraid to call himself one in these current times of political woe? Just joking. Thanks again for your introduction, friend.

Don't explain yourself to

Don't explain yourself to anyone. If someone has a problem with you that's their problem. If they don't get that these are "opinions" and not absolute law then that is their malfunction. Keep posting, it keeps things interesting. --Sue ps. although I would have liked to hear more about where you get yoru credibility..haha jk.
