accessories to help style long hair

The accessories you choose depend on the way you would like to style your hair . There are various accessories designed to to wear your hair long, curly, pulled back, and pinned up. how you choose to wear your hair also depends on your mood and on the occasion. The simple styles can be used every day while the more elaborate ones can be worn every once in awhile for a more dramatic effect.
This is a brief list and description of hair accessories.
alligator clamps
These large hair clips are long and narrow. They work in the same manner as a spring type clothes pin. You squeeze one end and the other opens up to allow you to grasp two sections of or a large amount of hair and hold it together usually at the back of the head . these are good to wear on a hot day because it lifts up your hair away from your face.
hair barrettes
These come in all different sizes. There are some styles large enough to grasp all of your hair at the back of your head at the nape of your neck. These can be very plain and sleek and others can be highly ornate and elaborate. Some are made of two pieces and can close with a small hair stick, while others have tiny teeth on the inside and close with a clasp.
Some are medium sized to hold longer bangs away from your face and to the back of your head.
Others are tiny and used mainly for decoration and to hold thin wisps of hair.
Bobby pins
Not too many people use these anymore to style their hair. If they do, they are used to secure smaller, shorter strands of hair close to the head. You can still use them to makes spit curls by taking small sections of your hair and winding them around your index finger, then gathering them into a spring like coil and fastening them close to your scalp. It may take a while to do this to your entire head, but when you unwind them, it looks like you just got a permanent.
bun covers
How about wearing your hair gathered, twisted and coiled into a bun on the top of or at the back of your head? You can leave the hair as it is or put a decorative bun cover on it.
circlets
These are necklaces that you wear on top of your head. Popular in medieval times they were very romantic. Many of them have a teardrop shape crystal which dangles down on your forehead right above your nose. these are usually made out of multiple faceted crystal beads and look gorgeous on long hair.
hair clips
These come in various sizes and can be decorated with rhinestones, ribbons , and flowers. They are meant to hold the strands of hair away from your face.
hair combs
These are available in both plane and decorative styles. They are meant to pull your hair back away from your face. Sometimes they can be used to accent a rolled or twisted hairstyle.
hair sticks
Looking more like a single chopstick than a hair Accessory, these can be used alone or in multiples to accent a bun or rolled and twisted hairstyle. They can be either plain or highly decorative.
Headbands
This hair accessory can be a stretchy band, a hard plastic horseshoe shaped band, a piece of fabric or even a plain satin ribbon. it is worn around the head behind the face. It keeps the hair out of the face.
Ponytail holders
These are stretchy and used to pull back sections of hair from the sides of the face to the back of the head. You can just pull back the bangs and let the other hair flow freely or you can pull back all of the hair and wrap the ponytail holder tightly around it so it resembles an actual pony tail.
These are the basic hair accessories for long hair. You can also use hats , scarves and various other styles of clips and holders to create a multitude of simple to elegant hairstyles.
