Acne on Back Treatment
posted August 16, 2009 - 1:49amMost of us are accustomed to seeing acne surface on our face. However, in others, it makes home in different parts of the body such as the chest, arms, back, or buttocks. Out of all the aformentioned locations, likely the most popular immediately following the facial area is the back. Back acne is convenient in that it is masked by our clothing. However, it can be more painful given that we lean our back against chairs and such throughout the day. Summer can be drag with back acne as most aren't comfortable removing their shirt to reveal they have been invaded by pimples. Despite what you may think, body acne is not much more difficult to treat then conventional, facial acne. You may need to get creative when it comes to applying treatment products to certain areas, however the concept behind actually selecting the products is the same.
Acne occurs in any other part of the body just as it does on the face. A hair follicle becomes clogged with dead skin, and with the help of the excess sebum that gathers in the pore, acne bacteria takes over forming pimples. Your first goal with a treatment is to take care of the excess dead skin. Our body should be capable of doing this on its own, however because of genetic factors or other influences, some of us are unable to do this. Give you back a hand and help clean off dead skin with some soap and a sponge. Do not use loofah or anyhting else that is abrasive, you want to be gentle. Irritation can cause more acne eruptions. Instead of using the usual soap bar, use one that contains benzoyl peroxide.
Bacteria is the second problem which needs to be corrected. The benzoyl peroxide which we mentioned above should help take care of this. You might also consider applying a topical varaint on your back, to help keep the bacteria in control during the day. Be careful as this can bleach your clothes. It may be better to limit topical use of the medication to nighttime.
If the benzoyl peroxide does is not suffiicently powerful by itself, you may also want to consider using AHA (alpha hydroxy acid). This will create a nice exfoliating effect getting those dead cells off your skin. The 10% concentration should be sufficient. Do not prolong treatment if you notice irritation. A moisturizer may ease this irritation.
You need to be very careful as to what type of clothes you wear to help prevent back acne. Avoid clothing made of polyester and other synthetic materials that keep your skin from adequately breathing. Cotton is always the way to go. Pay close attention to the detergents you are using as well. Some have been known to cause acne. Purchase basic ones that don't have an overpowering fragrance.
