The A-league grows as does australian football
posted October 18, 2009 - 6:41amWhen i look back at the evolution of Football in australia i see big things for the game. With the success of Australia in the previous World Cup the game has grown exponentially. It was the first time in 32 years that this great country "AUSTRALIA" was again going to play at the sports greatest stage... "The World Cup".To the supprise of many we achieved great success, some even feel cheated by a controversial refereeing decision that ended a dream run. Since then and the creation of the new A-league, football in australia has and will continue to grow.
In the debut season the A-league, Sydney United managed to gain the services of former Manchester great Dwight Yorke and since then the league has gotten bigger and better. Another great Robbie Fowler, ex-Liverpool has made a commitment for this season with north queensland fury showing the potential for quality in this league.
With ten teams now in the A-league top players will have a league in which to grow and nurture thier talents and also a league that they may come home to play thier last years in. Another plus is such a furiously competetive state league and the opportunity for players to grow locally and to play at a higher level.
Hopefully we can grow this league more, devlop our lower leagues, grow financially and hopefully really make a go of the way football is heading.I like they way things are going in this sport and so do many other people. Lets go FOOTBALL and maybe one day we'll win the world cup. It only took 32 years to qualify but in that time we have come so far.......... and yet there is still so far to go. But for now its a good start!
