All about "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo": Mythology of SGI-USA's Chanting Meditation, Taken from the Ancient Tibetan Buddhism of Nichiren
posted August 29, 2008 - 10:25amThe link below will tell you what you need to know if your mind is already open to the teachings of The Lotus Sutra (the guiding book of Nichiren Buddhism).
But 'good Christians' need to hear this meaning in order to be aware that Nichiren Buddhism is not any kind of "worship" (in the traditional sense), but is rather an appreciation for the luck humanity is given (you could call it 'being thankful for the gifts of God' if that helps you sleep at night).
The central practice of Nichiren Buddhism is the repeated chanting of 'Nam Myoho Renge Kyo' ('we raise The Lotus Sutra,' naming it by its ancient Asian title); any sociologist will tell you that–though 'chanting' it may make it seem like it's meant to 'bring up some supernatural force from beyond the mortal world'–it's only meant to set the chanter's mind to receive 'whatever actually occurs in life' in the most-prosperous, -profitable and -peaceful way possible.
