Alli: A Personal Experience

Alli: A Personal Experience

If you are interested in losing weight then you've no doubt seen the advertisements for Alli, an over the counter weight loss drug approved by the FDA. You've probably heard how the pill is different because it isn't absorbed by your body and works only in your digestive track. However there are some things you will not hear.

The first is the under-emphasis of what the company calls "treatment effects." The drug works by preventing the absorption of fat by your body. The labeling tells you that you should wear dark clothing and/or pads during your first week to protect against said treatment effects. What it does not say is that your body will leak large amounts of a greasy substance, often with no control. These substances will permenantly stain your clothing. You will also experience a large increase in gas and odor, along with gas bubbles (which also stain your clothing).

Abdominal cramping will become a part of your life. The increase in fat being circulated through your digestive track will give you the feeling of having a gall-stone attack.

You will feel tired all the time, even with taking additional vitamins.

You may notice an increase in hair loss when you shower.

The big winner is after you stop taking the drug. You will still experience "treatment effects" for up to two months as the drug (which isn't absorbed by your body) works its way out of your system.

If you can deal with this you can loose an average of 15lbs over six months. Just be prepared to buy new panties and pants to replace the stained ones.

If you can't deal with this then just cut your calories and fat grams, exercise and lose the weight anyway.

i agree

i actually researched the drug before i tried it and the company was insistent that there were no side effects other than the "treatment effect." once you bought the product you had access to a forum and i found a lot of people having the same problems as i was having. the company line was the product has no side effects because it is not absorbed by the body. but the weight loss it says you can get is so minimal that it isn't worth it. you loose all that in the first week and that's it.

All that and a new wardrobe, too

I'm glad you posted your experience with that drug. Too many people want to lose weight and don't consider the side-effects, which the FDA-approval is marketed to gloss over. Considering a "safe" weight loss is 2.2 pounds per week and should be attainable with proper and sensible diet and exercise choices, which is a little over 50 pounds in six months, I certainly wouldn't subject myself to toxic drugs to lose less weight than I could lose otherwise.
