Am I Living the American Dream?

Am I Living the American Dream?

Many years ago, it seemed like everyone just wanted to live the American Dream. And what was that dream exactly? Well if you ask me, that dream was very simple, and for the most part, already true for me. Most people out there only want a few simple things in life to make them happy, such as a loving spouse, children, a small home with a little yard, and enough money to put food on the table and provide for your family. However, it seems like these days, that dream is much tougher to accomplish.

Based on what I have read lately, divorce rates are really high and on the rise, not too mention the number of illegitimate children is growing as well. The government seems to think they know all the answers, but every time they come up with a solution, it either has too much opposition from the other side, or costs taxpayers way too much money. The normal American Dream is harder to accomplish now and becoming harder by the day. I can tell you that I feel lots of pressure at work, which makes it much harder to have the energy to spend time with my family. When I finally get home, I am so emotionally drained that I lose focus on what really is important.  I feel pressure with my financial situation. Will I be able to pay for my children’s college like my wonderful parents paid for mine? Will I be able to afford to fix my car if it breaks down? Can I afford to take my wife out to a nice dinner occasionally to keep the spark alive?

I truly feel like I am living the American dream, but I certainly worry that the definition of the dream is changing, and it will be much harder to obtain in the future. How about we all try to remember what is important to us, like our freedom, our family, our health, and try and leave work at work. I pledge that today will be the last day that I will let my worries and fears dominate my mood at home. I will miss out on way to many happy memories if I focus on what I cannot control. Honey, I’m comin’ home!!!
