The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay - book review

This book by Michael Chabon is probably the most well written book I have ever read. And yes, the only reason I bought it was because it won a Pulitzer Prize. I had very low expectations going into this book. I had never heard of Michael Chabon before and I doubted that some "literary masterpiece" would be able to hold my low-brow attention. I was sorely mistaken. This is one of those times that art is not only, well, artful but also enjoyable.
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay follows the lives of two cousins around World War II who are involved in the comic book industry in New York city. Joe Kavalier is the tortured artist/amateur magician from a soon to be communist nation. Sammy Clay is a New Yorker dreamer/idea man. Together they formed an formible team. Their lives are full of highs and lows with a little Salvador Dali thrown in.
Chabon keeps the story moving at a pretty good pace while throwing in a lot of beautiful imagery. Some have said that there is too much of one or the other. The art people want more art, the page turners want more action. For me there was plenty of both to make it a throughly enjoyable book.
