Amazon.com to Introduce Kindle, Its New eBook Reader

The eBook format has been hailed as the next big advance in media... except that it's never really taken off. (And by "eBook" I'm not referring to books adapted to PDF format.)

People just don't seem to like the idea of reading an entire book on a small computer-like screen. But now the 800-pound-gorilla of retailing, Amazon.com, is launching its own eBook reader. The device, called Kindle, will be introduced on Monday, November 19th. With the launch of Kindle, Amazon is trying to succeed where many respected companies (including Sony) have failed.

This article from Publishers Weekly has links to several reviews of and comments about the Kindle eBook reader, including some from Newsweek, Engadget, and PW's own commentator.

Will Amazon's eBook reader succeed where others have failed? We should find out soon.

Re: commas

I put the commas in there originally to emphasize the name of the product, but by the time I got done with the sentence it had too many commas in it. I find as I write more stuff on Xomba, I'm not spending as much time proofreading as I used to ...

commas

Actually, these two commas are unnecessary, and are causing that choppiness you are feeling. ", called Kindle," Since you included the word "called" you do not need the commas before and after. Had you omitted "called", the commas would be required. It is so nice to see people concerned about grammar... Angel

Thanks

I'll thank you now! I think my comma usage is correct in that sentence, but now that I'm looking it over again it sounds awkward... too many commas that make the reader pause. I'm gonna rewrite it so it sounds less choppy.

Comma Usage

I feel obligated, you've helped me adjust my posts quite a few times now. I simply owe you one. You might want to look over your comma usage in this passage "But now the 800-pound-gorilla of retailing, Amazon.com, is launching its own eBook reader, called Kindle, on Monday, November 19th." I know my usage is not always up to par. It is actually quite possible that I misused commas throughout what I wrote just now in this very comment. I just couldn't get over that you have been looking over and helping me edit my work free of charge. I'm one to look out for my fans. So there ya are. Thank me later.
