An Earthquake Shakes California and Me in the Grocery Store

An Earthquake Shakes California and Me in the Grocery Store

I felt the earthquake while I was in the grocery store. I was in the knife aisle. Just kidding, I was actually in the aisle where the pasta sauces are, which could have been messy, but turned out to be fine.

Not a single bottle fell to the ground.< p>

Apparently, the earthquake in California was a magnitude 5.8 with an origin close to the Chino Hills area.

That's a pretty large earthquake even by California standards.

It was a very surreal feeling when this occurred today. Man I was shaky for a few minutes.

There's a great website that Caltech runs with info about recent earthquakes. See the site below.

It's just a matter of getting out of the way in time!

When I went to boot camp and my first Navy schools in Orlando back in 1986-88, I have distinct memories of that part of Florida being, erm, flat. Not much standing in the way of whatever weather Mother Nature decided to shuffle through. Having been raised in Los Angeles and having two points of reference, I would take earthquakes over hurricanes any day of the week. Earthquakes, while destructive if you are not prepared, won't blow your house down or blow your windows in so your house can become an aquarium. DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

Rumble rumble

Yeah, at least here in Florida we see the hurricanes long before they hit.

Those pesky shakers!

I also come from earthquake land, they happen so quick doesn't give one time to really react. Looks like the after shocks have calmed down :) glad for that! *lol* @ knife isle! The Pacific Rim of Fire

The landmasses in and around the Pacific Ocean are known as the Rim of Fire for volcanic activity that is prevalent here. Anywhere there is volcanic activity there is likely to be earthquakes. Even Hawaii is less a chain of islands and more a chain of underwater volcanic mountains with the peaks above the water's surface. I don't doubt that there are fault lines that recorded history doesn't even know yet in many parts of the world that may one day be primed for massive earthquakes in such catastrophic events as a polar shift. (Polar shifts would be an interesting subject for anyone to Google.) DO YOU HAVE THE WRITE STUFF?

Hutt, I didn't know that New

Hutt, I didn't know that New Zealand got earthquakes too. Interesting. @ Mia: I heard there were aftershocks every minute for an hour or so after the initial 5.6 quake. Crazy. Now of course everyone in CA is freaking out.
