An MIT College Education Online For Free?
That's right! You won't be able to get your degree, or even credit for the classes, but you can take the classes to brush up on your knowledge, expand your mind for personal growth, or just learn something that's always interested you, online, from MIT, absolutely free!
They offer way too many courses for me to list, and they come with lecture notes, videos, exams, etc. No registration is necessary.

Too bad I hate Math but I adore Science! This is pretty cool. Knowledge should be shared, especially cutting edge/leading tech knowledge. Great find +1

And, I'm glad to see that MIT agrees. There are actually other schools, many of them prestigious, though not quite as highly respected or prized, that are also offering free classes online. But, after many moons of research, I've found that MIT's program is superior. It's not necessarily because it is such a highly respected school, it's more because they give you more for each class, and more options ~ They have 1800+ courses available (most schools that I've found top out at 100, some only have like 5).
You could take the science without having to take the math this way. :)

This is outstanding. I've been saying for years that there's no need to spend tens of thousands of dollars at "higher learning" institutions. You can learn pretty much anything online or at the library that is taught in colleges and universities. Now, one of the top-notch schools in the country is offering free courses (even without the credits or degree, it's still a great deal).
Sooner or later, employers will need to realize that a piece of paper saying you graduated from college is just as good as proving your worth on the job - and having enough sense to get the same education as the graduate, but for free. I'd take a hard worker with that kind of common sense over a fresh college graduate any day.

I have already downloaded a couple of the higher level anthropology and philosophy courses. Next, I plan on doing the math, perhaps astronomy... so many courses I wish to take, so little time. :D
I'm like a kid in a candy store!
And, I agree with you about employers. I've known college graduates who may have had more book-based knowledge about the job, but were still lost when trying to implement said knowledge practically. At the same time, I've known people who dropped out of high school, and were amazing when it came to doing a particular job! My uncle is one such example. He never graduated high school, and he's a genius when it comes to cars and computers. Eventually, he did get his degree, but that was after decades of working in the same job.
It used to be that all you had to do was prove, in a reasonable short amount of time, that you could do the work to the satisfaction of the employer. Now, you are required to have a degree, regardless of how good you are at the job! It's ridiculous!

Well, these days you need to have a college degree just to get an interview - sometimes, just to be let in the door to drop off a resume. I think it's sad what employers do to these people. School is not for everyone, but that does not mean that only the incompetent don't go. Some of the most successful people in the world dropped out of college.
A degree does not mean you're more capable of performing your job or duties...it simply means you completed your courses with a passing grade. And let me tell you a little secret: You have to try really hard to not get at least a 'C' in any class you take while earning a Bachelor's degree. In fact, you'd have to be pretty damn stupid to not pass, so to me, it's not that great a feat to accomplish and is entirely overrated and irrelevant in the hiring process. But that's just my first-hand opinion.

In fact, most of my friends have decided that I have a Ph.D. in B.S. I've passed most of my classes, throughout my high school career, while never having popped open a textbook. Frankly, many teachers were lucky I bothered to stay awake!
But, school isn't that easy for everyone, even if they are very intelligent people. So, I wouldn't say that they're stupid if they don't pass a class. My uncle is a genius, but school was always very difficult for him. He couldn't handle it, and was a high school drop out. He was still the best computer engineer that Litton ever saw! He struggled through college in order to obtain a degree for a job he was already better at then any of the teachers. There's just something about school that doesn't click for some people, even if they know the material and are highly intelligent individuals.

This is awesome. I've written a few posts about similar free courses. It's great that you can have access to this info. Hmmmmmm. What class should I take first?

MIT is still the most extensive list of available courses I've seen to date, but I did a lot more research, and wrote a Xombyte with links to all kinds of free college courses online. Berkeley, MIT, Yale... you can get the same education for free from all of those, for whatever classes they'll have available to you..

I think it's a wonderful thing! Now, I just need to figure out how many classes I can take at one time without losing my mind. LOL.

... the mind. When one expands one's mind to make -it- into a classroom, one sees the truth of lots of things.
The ability to have PangeaCat in tight leather 'teaching' one with a horsewhip ... that's just icing on the bare b ... untcake.

That's what Napoleon Hill said was wrong with the public school-system: it's FREE (to most of the people using it, anyway).
