U.S. Troops on Both Sides in War on the U.S. Constitution

U.S. Troops on Both Sides in War on the U.S. Constitution

Maybe the politicos don't care about the troops ... I don't, the troops themselves don't, and neither should you (unless you are related to some of the troops; in which case you don't care for those troops themselves, so much as the relationship you have with them that is dying/in-stasis until they get back).

The soldier is little more than a minuscule part of the government's war-tool ... I mean 'protective service'-tool ... lol Oh, sure; we 'honor' the ones who make it through combat (either alive or dead), but the honor comes from the sacrifice of their safety (not so much the mass-murder involved).

I didn't hear the exact proposal of the democrats, and I don't really care to--I hope that's not from the front-page of the president's playbook (lol)--but I'm thinking the idea is more that they don't want to "increase the ranks over there."

Naturally, we need a bit of force there to serve as a reminder that we CAN have more force there, and to make sure the young nation develops the appropriate society; but I don't want Bush to be such a bully!

Constitutionally, We're More a Dictatorship Now

We're only a 'democracy' so far as "the people" can all use lawyerese to break into the system, as Dubya does with this Directive! With More Devotion to than Words Dare Express, Uncle MythMan

If this were still a Constitutional Republic...

If this were still a Constitutional Republic in at least the spirit of the intent of the Founding Fathers, then both Congress and the Judiciary branches would serve to both check and balance abuses by the Executive. Unfortunately, since 1865, it's been all downhill and the government no longer represents the will of the people as much as it represents the will of the highest bidder. More specifically, the overwhelming majority of the American people are against the war (and that's without them having ALL the facts about what is really happening over there), yet Bush and the other political whores in Washington still don't plan on bringing our troops home anytime soon. Cui bono? To answer your question, I would say Israel via it's lobbying group, AIPAC. Israel is the only country that stands to gain from our continued, agitating presence in the Middle East.

Who Has Power Over Dubya?

And I don't mean the First Lady ... I mean someone 'chosen by the American people' who can rightfully order Bush Jr. to take up an UZI and follow (if not 'lead') the soldiers into battle? I agree.

I find it interesting that the chickenhawks in Washington continue to want to slaughter Iraqis (to the tune of 10,000+ a month, according the most respected British medical journal, the Lancet). Having been in the military and having served in a combat zone, if I had to look at two scenarios and decide which one was more demoralizing, in this case:
  1. We are going to keep on killing Iraqi civilians because we don't have an exit strategy. It doesn't matter that your family languishes alone back home because you are on your fourth and fifth tours in Iraq, because we have to (insert cliche slogan here). As your Commander-in-Chief, I am with you 100% of the way, even though I am several thousands of miles away sitting in an air-conditioned office and get to sleep in a soft bed every night and don't have to worry about being shot at or having someone drop a mortar on my head.
  2. Our government wasn't forthcoming in the real reasons we went to Iraq before, so we are going to end the senseless slaughter of Iraqi civilians and of your comrades and work as hard and fast as we can to bring you back home to your loved ones. Gee, which one would raise my morale more? Hmm...
