And the winner of the Script Contest is....

(Drum roll)

We know everyone has been holding their breath and waiting with anticipation for the following announcement.
Let me tell you it was not an easy selection at all. We got lots of entries and I would say 10 or 11 of them were awesome. Getting that number down to 4 was quite a challenge. The winner was chosen on what we think would make the best commercial for Xomba. So without further ado:

The winner of the Script Contest is Chris McCarthy

Congratulations Chris you've just won $100.

Our next contest will be for amateur/professional film makers to create commercials using the foundation of this script. So get your video recorders ready. We'll be announcing the contest in a few weeks.

You can find the winning script below:

Origins of the Word Xomba

Xomba Script Submitted by Chris McCarthy

We open on two twenty-something guys, Bob and Jeff, talking. They can be sitting at a coffee shop, on a bench in a park, sitting on a couch in front of a TV, or they can be driving in a car. The conversation can take place anywhere that makes sense.

Bob: “Hey Jeff. Now that we’ve been members of Xomba.com for a while and we’re meeting cool people, learning new things, and writing our blogs, I was wondering…do you know what Xomba means?”

Jeff: (pauses for a moment to think) “Yes Bob, actually I do. It was originally the name of a faraway land that sank to the bottom of the ocean hundreds of years ago. It will forever be known as the Lost City of Xomba.”

Bob: (silent for a few seconds mulling over the response to his question) “Jeff, wasn’t that Atlantis?”

Jeff: (Looks puzzled for a second) “Oh yeah, that’s right. Atlantis.”

Bob: “So you don’t know what Xomba means.”

Jeff: “No, I do. (Pauses for a moment to think) It’s the name of a huge, hairy beast that used to terrorize the cavemen. It’s a distant cousin of Yeti and was given the name Xomba because of the loud noise it made when it was on the attack. The beast would scream “Xomba! Xomba!” and the cavemen would scramble and run for their lives.”

Bob: “Uhhh…I don’t think that’s it Jeff.”

Jeff: “You sure?”

Bob: “In fact, I know that’s not it. That’s ridiculous.”

Jeff: “Oh that’s right. (Pauses to think) Now I remember. The word Xomba was found in an Egyptian Pharaoh’s tomb, written in ancient hieroglyphics on a stone tablet. Scholars maintain that it means “A place where you have the freedom to write what you want, when you want, and make money as part of a community of people who like to learn new things and share knowledge.”

Bob: “Oh! That makes a lot more sense. So it’s a real word?”

Jeff: “Yes.”

Bob: “It’s a great word.”

Jeff: “Yes Bob, it is.”

Bob: “Jeff, you have a very vivid imagination.”

Jeff: “Yeah, I sure do. And I’m going to share it with everyone I meet at Xomba.com.”

Bob: (exasperated and sarcastic) “Oh boy.”

Awww, c'mon, we all love the Guru

Who couldn't love the little orange dancing dino who keeps our community peaceful? Maybe PG can be one of the actors in the commercial as a consolation...

No love for the Guru!

Congratulations to the winner. I wish I could have been a judge but I was still new when the contest ran and was still being broken in by Admin. Poised Guru Xomba Moderator
