Andy Murray Upsets Rafael Nadal in U.S. Open Semis
posted September 7, 2008 - 5:41pmAndy Murray of Scotland pulled off a surprise upset of number-one-ranked Rafael Nadal on Sunday and will face Roger Federer in the men's final of the U.S. Open on Monday. Murray won the match 6-2, 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.
The men's final will take place at 5 p.m. on Monday. It will be broadcast on CBS TV and also will be streamed live at www.usopen.org.
Murray, the number six seed, was up on Nadal two sets to none, with Nadal up a break in the third set, on Saturday afternoon when the rains came and cancelled action for the rest of the day. It was thought that the break might enable Nadal to regroup, and he did go on to win the third set, 6-4, when the action resumed at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday.
But Murray continued his great shotmaking and had Nadal running from side to side on the court.
