Promotion

My guess is that you are not even going to try to look at this from a fairness point of view. But, I'll respond this time. She got SPECIAL treatment to get promoted to 4-stars...she did not meet the decades-old criteria of having combat experience. If you do not understand or refuse to understand that, that is YOUR problem. P.S. Don't exaggerate so much, as in "how can someone move up?". My God, she's a 3-star General. That is the creme de le creme. You are being goofy, making it sound like she's stuck as a Private or something. P.S.S. If you wanna talk about women's exclusion from direct combat, talk about that. That is a DIFFERENT issue. Chris D

Promotion

How can someone move up by having combat experience if their entire gender is prohibited from being in combat in the first place? I didn't see her comments as "whining" about the glass ceiling, but as being happy that she had broken through it.

TINGED PROMOTION

Congratulations to this soldier but the article is quite ironic. On one hand, it reiterates the tired "glass ceiling" mantra. On the other hand, it openly states that the Army made a special exception for her. I was in the Marines. Promotions worked the same way. There were perks for those who survived combat, as there should be for risking your life in what is, after all, the end game (we called it the "tip of the spear”) in the military. In light of her “special” treatment, I find it distasteful that she accepted the nomination while simultaneously whining about the so called “glass ceiling”. Chris D
