Anniversary of 9/11

Anniversary of 9/11

Let's go back several years to a time when the world stopped and held its breath, a day that everybody I know remembers like it was just yesterday.

September 11th 2001 – A day when switching the news channel on sent shockwaves and emotions running through countless people around the world.

On this day several passenger planes had been used as weapons of mass destruction by terrorists, killing thousands of people.

A day in which images of two planes crashing into the World Trade Center (Twin Towers) in New York serve to remind us of the tragedy and horror of the day’s events.

I also remember that day well:

I was just starting my day at work and had arrived in Ordsall in Manchester UK, and was just stepping out of my colleague’s car when a gentleman and total stranger beckoned for us to see something.

It seemed important as the guy was agitated, so we went over to see.

He invited us into his kitchen and pointed toward the TV and said: “Look at that, a plane has just crashed into one of the Twin Towers.”

I can certainly say that I was pretty much stunned and horrified at the image of one of the world’s most famous landmarks burning and billowing out smoke, I know my colleague was as the words that came out of his mouth are not printable in this article.

The man however was absolutely convinced that what we had been seeing was an attack on the United States of America, and it was as he said: “Planes just do not fly into building in New York!”

The unthinkable then happened; the second tower was hit by a passenger plane.

For a brief moment, that seemed to be forever we were completely silent… Total disbelief!

I was thinking that this had to be an elaborate stunt… This was CGI animation!

I remember the Sky News correspondent on TV being absolutely awestruck and almost lost for words
.
Within seconds my cell phone was ringing, the man’s telephone was ringing and my colleague’s phone was ringing.

We didn’t go to work that day, I went home and just sat watching the news in total shock and disbelief at the events that were unfolding.

That day I knew… The world in which we live had just changed…

On September the 11th this year as with every year since, I will quietly reflect on what happened and remember.

You may leave a comment, let us all know what you remember and what you will be doing on September 11th this year.

Thank You - *Dedicated to all those who lost their lives in the September the 11th attacks and those men and women who serve to fight for our freedom all over the world.*

Amen...

I'm so happy... this post really touches my heart and it makes me happy that 9/11 hasn't just become another day again. Me and my friend was JUST discussing today how there are movies coming out on that day... and how sad it is that so many people are starting to lose their respect for that day. I wish more people could respect this day and the true heart of the men who served to protect America and are still serving this day for our freedom.

Thanks for that amazing post :)

-Sincerely yours,

The infamous Stranger
