Anorexia, Bulimia, and Perfectionism

Perfectionists are at an increased risk of developing anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa. This is because perfectionism plays a significant role in each of these eating disorders. Treatment is often difficult because many issues must be addressed in order for anorexics and bulimics to recover from their disease and their distored thought process must also be corrected. Even for those individuals who recover from these debilitating eating disorders, perfectionism often remains a life-long struggle.
