Apartment Building Feng Shui
Before you move into a new apartment, it is a smart thing to evaluate whether the design and location of that building are auspicious or not, based on feng shui practice. If your apartment building has good feng shui, it can enhance your luck in many areas including wealth, career, health and relationship. If the feng shui is bad, however, it can cause a lot of difficulties in your life or even health problems.
First of all, the building should be regular-shaped such as square, oblong or round. An irregular-shaped building, in feng shui tradition, is inauspicious because it gives an impression of incompleteness. A curving driveway leading to the main entrance is considered better than a straight driveway, as in feng shui belief, straight lines tend to bring negative energy that can cause accidents and misfortune.
A highly auspicious thing that should be located near the main entrance is a fountain, fish pond or swimming pool. It is because water is associated with wealth and success. Having a fountain near the front door of the building, therefore, should bring prosperity to the occupants.
The worst location for an apartment building is on top of a hill, especially when there is no other buildings around. A solitary building on a hill will fail to create any positive energy or good fortune; all the energy and fortune will be blown away by the wind and drained downhill by water. Ideally, the back of the building should be supported either by another building or by a hill.
Also, check the lobby area. It should be well-lit and appear welcoming. A large front door is supposed to be extremely propitious for an apartment building. Staircases should also be large, for narrow ones can obstruct the chi (or life force) from flowing freely. Ideally, a staircase should have a door that conceal it from view and should not face the main entrance directly.
Last but not least, the passageway that leads to your apartment should be relatively wide and well-lit. Apartments on opposite sides of the hallways should have doors that are aligned with each other because that is supposed to bring harmony and lessen misunderstanding among the residents. The front door of your apartment should not be located directly opposite to an elevator. In feng shui belief, elevators will carry your good luck and prosperity away with them.
