posted November 1, 2008 - 3:46pmApple does not welcome Opera Mini, the well-known browser for mobile platforms. Apple declined the permission for Opera to enter the App Store, Opera's CEO Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner says.
According to the foreman of Opera, there's already an Opera Mini version for the iPhone-platform, but Apple does not want to include it into the App Store, because Opera Mini would conquer with the standard Safari-browser which is the stock browser that ships with every iPhone.
Opera Mini is a very popular browser for the mobile platform. The browser is installed on a considerable amount of smartphones already, and it's a great success. Earlier, an employee of the Mozilla Foundation also said that Firefox Mobile has been declined by Apple, due to the strict rules of Apple, that state that third party software may not copy functionalities of already existing applications.
In the beginning of 2008, Apple also declined MailWrangler, an application to mail using multiple Gmail-accounts at the same time. They also declined Podcaster, software that could download podcasts right out of the iTunes Store. Podcaster got declined because Apple is planning to build a similar function in version 2.2 of the iPod software.
