Apple says NO to Windows Vista
posted February 9, 2007 - 12:02pmAccording to reports, Apple Computer has recommended that iTunes users should avoid installing Windows Vista, as the iTunes music software might not run well with the new operating system.
Earlier, while the beta version of Vista was released, many users complained about problems in running version 7.0.2 of iTunes on
it.
Now, with the release of Vista, Apple has officially acknowledged the problem, and posted a recommendation on it's site saying that iTunes 7.0.2 may work with Windows Vista on many typical PCs. However, customers will have to wait to upgrade Windows until the next release of iTunes scheduled in the next few weeks.
Some of the problems with iTunes running on Vista include inability to play tracks purchased from the iTunes store, difficulty in synchronizing contacts and calendars, and possible complete corruption of iPods plugged into a Vista PC.
According to the company, the problem may not affect all Windows users, but it is serious enough, and therefore the company does not recommend that PC owners install Vista just yet.
However, for those users who have already attempted to install Vista, Apple has advised them to unauthorise their existing iTunes account, uninstall iTunes, and perform a clean install rather than an upgrade. In case, this doesn't work, the company is offering a repair tool "iTunes Repair Tool for Vista" that helps reauthorise purchased songs and videos, and is available for download on the site.
Full details of the problem, along with information on what to do if you want to transfer your existing iTunes collection and use iTunes on Vista are at Apple's site. In case you have already installed Vista and are encountering a problem running iTunes on Vista, there is the "iTunes Repair Tool for Vista" available for download.
