Are MTV Reality Shows a Sport?

Are MTV Reality Shows a Sport?

Women stomping through puddles to get rings to eliminate eachother, what kind of crap is that for a challenge. Trash talking about who is a more stupid bitch, well I guess that's just a certain type of women going at it. I just watched one of the Real World Road Rules Challenges and they all seem to crack me up. They're so competitve, (selling themselves to be an MTV lifer) which made me ponder how and if it's a sport. It certainly has the symptoms of a sport.
The first sign that it could be a sport is that there are the wily vetrans and there are rookies. I'm not sure how much of a difference there is in these types of games to where experience can help you all that much. I mean you're either able to do the challenge or you suck at it. Some require skills like climbing or running, but some are just stupid luck, so how does a vetran have a better chance other than they have more camera time.
The rookies seem to get picked on everytime, because they don't have any experience or friends "alliances" from previous challenges. I mean look at Brett Farve last year when he was talking about mentoring Aaron Rodgers. He said hell no I'm not a babysitter (Not exactly Farve's words, but semi close). It's like finding a job out of college, how do you get any experience, if nobody will hire you? So with reality tv it must be way too much to ask a vetran to show a rook how to make money in the industry (MTV Reality).
Now let's have a look at the vetrans (people who have made a life out of returning to these shows). It seems like these people pop up everytime they have a show. In the episode I just watched Beth (the bitch), gets ganged up on eventhough she is a vetran negating an earlier argument but nonetheless. She's like Mike Vanderjagt, trash talks, plays a moderate role in the teams success, and chokes under pressure. Well maybe that last part was just a cheap shot at a kicker, but the rest is true.
So to sum it all up I classify Reality TV as a sport comperable to wrestling. They are entertaining, and keep throwing twists and turns into a plot. Wait there aren't plots in sports, oh yeah there are I forgot there's twenty subplots in everygame. Did anyone even know TO used to play for Philly when Dallas played them last weekend? I didn't think so. I love gamling on sports, and would love to make odds on reality tv. So I leave it up to you to decide whether it's a sport or not. I say reluctantly it's a sport.

I have to agree with the reality world's ideas on sports. As much as I am entertained by a select few of these shows, it has become excessive and the definition of 'sports' is lost. There is no real spirit of competition within these reality shows, when mud is flung at the other competitor and cheap shots are taken to gain an advantage. It basically shows how average people that cannot do anything are made into social heroes for the moment, simply because they were on a uselss show like this. MTV has made a fortune off of these, and I'm sure every network has done the same to some degree. No wonder the public have no idea about what true reality is. Try turning off the TV once in a while.

I guess your right...

Thanks for the comment. I think I was just bringing up a conversation piece. I was a little drunk at the time and maybe shouldn't be on here with a good buzz, beacuse I get lost in what I'm writing... Oh well!

Well, it involves sports, anyway.

I saw that same episode (another guilty pleasure of mine, I guess). It's typical MTV trash. A sport? Well, if chess qualifies as a sport, why not this? But you're not really just asking if it's a sport; you're bringing up the show as a topic of conversation...aren't ya? 'Cause I wouldn't say it's a straight-up sport, nor is it meant to be. But it is a competition, certainly. Aren't they competing for a mil or something like that? I hope the woman with ovarian cancer (Diem) wins it all, but who knows. The only thing we know for sure is that watermelons aren't as heavy as they appear en masse.
