Are we BORN to cheat????

This article suggests we may be born to cheat, genetically. I personally think that is crap, if your father cheated, you will supposedly too because it's likely a learned activity.

Do as I say Not as I do

This is so true. Parents think that they can tell their children what to do but act differently and think that the child will listen. Well I can speak from experience. My daughter has fallen right into my footsteps even though I thought I had taught her the importance of family, marriage and responsibility. She has 3 children she got divorced at the same age as I did when I was her age, she divorced for almost the same reason as I did. And she was married the same number of years as I was. I only hope that we together by actually living a better life in front of the grand children can make their lives better so they do not end up in the same situation.

Indeed, what we do is more important than what we say as parents

Children learn to model what is "appropriate" from their parents, especially the relationship between a man and woman. A woman will often look for a mate based on the qualities she saw in her father and a man will do the same based on his mother. If a boy or young man sees his father cheat and treat women poorly, he will be predisposed to do the same because in his mind, that's what "men do". The hope is that such behavior can be unlearned over time. For instance, I had an abusive, alcoholic stepdad for a role model, but today I rarely drink and I am not abusive. It took a lot of work to deal with those childhood issues so I didn't end up like him, but I did do it because I believe each of us has the opportunity to break the chain of behaviors set by the preceding generation. I agree with you

We learn the bulk of our principles from our parents, whether we like it or not. Check out my Xomba Homepage
