Attention Topic Stealers

Attention Topic Stealers

I think it’s great that we have a site that allows us to write about practically anything that crosses our minds. Even when responses are far from being well thought out, it’s nice that we can strike a debate on any topic for any reason. I have read a few postings about how some comments that are being left are making people crazy, but what's doing it to me, is the fact that people are so quick to take someone else’s topic and turn it into their own. Instead of taking what other people thought to write about, try thinking for yourselves.

There are an endless number of things to write about, so why take a topic that is doing well and write about it for yourself? Is it because you would rather people focus on your article? Is it because you feel that your chance to get “hits” will go up? Why not voice your opinion under the original post? I have seen this happen frequently on this site. One person writes about a topic that pulls in a lot of readers. A few days later there are a handful of articles on the same topic, and just released.

I can understand this happening if the topic is all over the news that day and we are all eager to write about it. So we begin writing without reading other posts, and suddenly there are 10 articles about the purple cow seen in the middle of the interstate. I can even understand that coincidences can happen, however, it’s obvious when this is not the situation.

Just like the ridiculous comments that continue to be posted, I’m sure topic stealers will continue to take other people’s articles and turn it into their own. I guess everyone can’t be responsible for thinking for themselves.

hm, no...

as long as what you have to say is well-thought-out, deep and/or interesting, i don't find a problem with someone writing about the same topic as someone else. so long as said topic is unoriginal to begin with. you might not like all the topics about "evolution," but there is a simple solution to that: DON'T READ THEM. the topic of evolution isn't original to start with, it wasn't even totally original for CHARLES DARWIN. so please, the idea that someone else has written an article about something so no one else is allowed to create an article that is their own point of view about that topic is absurd. just my own two cents...

Yes, I steal.

I beg, borrow and steal and sometimes get paid for the content. One publication pays for a story, you edit it, refocus it and ship it off to another publication. I read a story, know of a local slant I can put on it and ship it to another editor. An editor reads a piece and assigns me a slant on the subject that would be great for his/her publication. If you think you are having an original thought, think again...and again....and again... It's also great to inspire other writers to steal your idea. I've made someone mad or think about the topic or hopefully, laugh. Get over yourself, or are you? Maybe this was a well thought out idea to get folks to bicker and comment. How did this bear trap get on my leg?.... Someone let me out of here.... "It's easy to forget what's important—so don't." - Mr. Mom

Goodness knm500

Why don't you just bug off? Sorry Lynn if I offended you. I actually wrote that before realizing it was you who wrote that article, and I was pretty ticked that you might have been pissed about something so simple, but I hoped it wasn't that, and was glad to hear it was about Evolution posts, because I agreed. And knm500, I said a number of times in my reply that I agreed with her about the Evolution posts. I was making sure it wasn't an attack on me because that happens, oh, EVERY SECOND on this site. No one can seem to say anything without someone coming along and attacking them personally. I didn't attack Lynn personally, I normally enjoy her posts thoroughly. You, however, have now officially noted yourself as one of those people on this site who are insulting. I never mean to be insulting, and when the person I may insult calls me on it, I always appologize. YOU HAVE NO PLACE to talk to me about my attitude or anything related as I have never spoken to you before and never will after this post. Call me what you will, and I'm sure you'll call me many things after you read this, but I won't read them, and even if I did I'm done caring about what you have to say.

True

Although, I think you missed my point once again. Try a little kindness once in awhile, it isn't always necessary to be a jackass. You can have personality and draw people to you in other ways. Having a sense of humor is much more pleasant and inviting than being arrogant and pompous. Laughter opens up the mind and removes stress as well as it gives something back to the world that is needed much more than arrogance.

Arrogance is part of my

Arrogance is part of my persona. I think it gives my voice more personality and therefore more readability. Some would probably argue the opposite. But I also think a mark of great work, of any nature, is the ability to polarize its consumers, i.e. create strong reactions, whatever direction they may be in.

Let me state this also-

Just because I agreed with part of what you said Ken - that doesn't mean that I agree with how arrogant you choose to come off most of the time. Lynn, I appreciate your post and your opinions. Myself , I didn't really think about it as stealing but, I guess it could be viewed that way when a person basically gives the same information. My opinion about the second post is that it was a retaliation against belief in G-d. I didn't see it as someone stealing, it seemed clear that it was a post written in defense of belief in a higher power.

I AGREE KEN!

IT IS CALLED INSPIRATION! I don't steal topics- I write about what I feel passionate about. To be honest, I don't read too many xombytes and I am trying to be better about doing so. I agree with you Ken. I have much that I could say about certain topics and I will voice my opinions if I wish to but I never search to see what is popular and decide to copy their idea and write about something in hopes of getting hits. Frankly, I pay little attention to what is hot or not. I am not a groupie type person and I hate followers with a passion! I will almost always do the opposite of what everyone else is doing because I do what feels best for me not what the crowd declares as cool. I have been told I am opinionated, lol , imagine that! but, most opinionated people do not tend to be copy cats. I wrote about Islam and that is a topic that is written about often but I didn't choose to write about Islam because I was copying someone else's idea. I will no doubt write much more about Islam and Muslims because I have very strong opinions about what is taking place in our world. I will probably write endlessly about Israel because I happen to be Jewish with strong ties and a deep emotional connection to the Holy Land. Non the less, I do understand your point and I do agree that stealing ideas is wrong, but it is only stealing if a person's heart isn't involved in what they are writing about or this is how I see it.

Her "two cents" are more than welcome.

Actually, I appreciate her comment. The more I thought about the arrogance that came out in the above post, the more frustrated I became, however, I had decided to simply let it go and look at it for what is really was. It is nice to know that I'm not the only one that recognized how rude the posting was. So, her "two cents" are more than welcome, and if you are this concerned with people minding their own business, perhaps you should be looking at someone other than her.

Lynn

Sure, the matter was settled

Sure, the matter was settled effectively by my statement above, which I do not believe was titled "Ken Light" but rather to your boyfriend. I believe you are the one that needs to spend your two cents elsewhere. Thanks.
