"August: Osage County," a play by Tracy Letts about a dysfunctional family in Oklahoma, won the Tony Award for Best Play at the awards ceremony Sunday night. It was one of five awards that the play won.

The play also came up with the Best Actress award (Deanna Dunagan) and Featured Actress (Rondi Reed). "August: Osage County" also won the Tony for direction. It had won other major awards this season, including the Pulitzer Prize for drama and the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award.

The play originated in Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, which Tracy Letts has been a member of since the early part of the decade. Letts is the writer of a number of plays including Killer Joe, Man from Nebraska, and Bug. Letts also wrote the screenplay for the movie version of Bug, which was released last year and starred Ashley Judd.

Letts has also acted in a wide range of plays, movies, and TV shows, including one-episode appearances on everything from Judging Amy and Profiler to The Drew Carey Show and Seinfeld.
