The Foreign Exchange Markets (Forex or FX) were first deregulated in 1997 and I started trading the following year. At the time there were really no software products on the market to help you with research and crunching the massive amount of currency data that is generated every day. Since then there has been an endless number of automated Forex trading system that have been introduced.

As with every thing, some where better than others and survived the initial flood of products that seemed to all hit the market at the same time. The currency trading software that survived, quickly found out they either had to improve there trading efficiency or they were going to be just one more company left in the dust.
