The holiday season lasting from Halloween through New Year’s Eve is approaching fast and traditionally means mirth, merriment, food and imbibing of all manner of alcoholic drinks from beer to wine, to seemingly harmless eggnog but which often packs an unintended punch (no pun intended).
nbsp; With the latest DWI and DUI laws in place in most states, it is becoming far more apparent that being caught driving while intoxicated or under the unfluence will end up with jail time, heavy fines and a devastating impact on your life, your job or school and friendships. A serious accident could end up in someone dying and it probably won’t be you, if you are so drunk, you cannot feel anything or remember anything the next morning. Lack of memory doesn’t relieve you of the guilt or destruction of you or anyone else's life nor does it erase the inevitable misdemeanour or felony DUI charge that follows you.
You have to ask yourself, is it worth the risk? The correct answer is of course, no, it never is. Designated Drivers programs have cropped up in some states and most cost $50-55 for a one time pick-up at your selected location with DD's dropping you and even your car safely home. That is a bargain compared to the cost of a DUI which can run in the thousands and even the tens of thousands depending on its severity.
You can party to your heart’s content without the burden of whether or not you will make it home safely if you decide to take a chance. If you think you’ll be OK, or you surmise you’ll never get drunk enough to be a danger, think again. Our jails are full of foolhardy, “it’ll never happen to me”, seemingly intelligent and upstanding citizens. Before you go on a fun night out, take the phone number of your local DD program with you. Simply put, don't drink and drive! Don’t chance it – be safe! These programs also allow you to volunteer yourself as a designated driver. Here are a some sites to check out:
