Avoid Gaining Weight During the Holidays
posted November 8, 2008 - 1:58amOk, with the holidays coming up it represents numerous things. Lots of time to spend with family, cuddle up on the couch and relax, dance to the soothing holiday music, and enjoy life. Oh, one more thing, FOOD. A lot of food. From the thanksgiving turkey, ham, potatoes, beans, pumpkin pie, to the Christmas chicken, the chocolate pudding. All sorts of yummy food. And what comes on the side with food? Fat.
So I'm going to post a few ideas on how to keep your weight on track during the holidays.
Keep a food journal over the holidays
-Write down what you eat to monitor your caloric intake. Research shows that people who keep a food diary consume 15% less food than those who don’t!
Schedule your workouts.
-Mark them on the calendar and set-aside time to complete them. Consider them as important as any other appointment or event you have marked on your calendar.
Be aware of your portion sizes.
Balance higher calorie foods with lower calorie choices.
It is always great to eat slowly. If you eat too fast, your stomach will not process it and will still make you feel hungry and craving for more. This really helps you to prevent overeating.
Try walking around the house during TV commercials . When chatting on the phone, try marching in place while talking.
Just try to keep busy. Don't hold off exercise habits until the next year because it's holiday season.
Have a safe and happy holiday!!
