Why You Should Avoid Phthalates Found in Common Fragrances

Have you heard about the dangers of phthalates? Found in fragrances, shampoos, soaps, and other common household products, these toxins are believed to create significant health issues. Studies are currently being conducted about the possible relationship between phthalates and asthma, childhood obesity, and fertility issues. Europe has already taken measures to limit phthalates in products. Phthalates can be absorbed through skin, inhaled, or ingested, and have the potential to cross the placenta, impact birth weight, cause anatomical abnormalities in males, as well as be transmitted through breastmilk. They have been shown linger in high concentrations in infants' systems. Sadly, because so many cosmetics and perfumes contain them, CDC tests have found that some of the highest phthalate levels in humans were in women of childbearing age.
