Bad Karma for Sharon Stone | Tibet and the China Earthquake
posted May 29, 2008 - 9:14amSharon Stone spoke about karma at the Cannes Film Festival. To be exact she was talking about the Tibet situation and the earthquake in China, and expressed her view that the earthquake is a result of bad karma because of the way China handles the Tibetan problem.
In her elegant prose she said, "all this earthquake and all this stuff happened, and I thought, is that karma -- when you're not nice that the bad things happen to you?" All this earthquake has already cost many lives, and great misery and the tragedy is still going on.
Her insensitive remarks brought a swift reaction. There are calls for her films to be boycotted. Her ads for Dior will be dropped.
Her apology, which she coupled with a pledge to do her utmost to help the Chinese people affected by the earthquake, has not been accepted. In fact, people see it as insincere.

Dior immediately issued a statement saying it did not support any remark that hurts Chinese people's feelings.
Stone's belief in karma may well be right, and its swift effect has been immediately apparent.
