Barbra Streisand to Concert Heckler: "Shut the %&@# Up!"

Barbra Streisand has acquired a huge audience of adoring fans over the decades, but she ran into a bit of static at her Oct. 9th concert in her hometown of New York.

Streisand, who has long been known for her left-leaning political views, included a skit in her Madison Square Garden concert in which the singer carried on a conversation with an impersonator pretending to be president George Bush. The skit portrayed Bush as a bumbling dolt, and both jeers and applause were heard throughout the crowd. At one point Streisand asked the crowd to be polite during the skit, but when one heckler persisted she responded, "Shut the %&@# up! Shut up if you can't take a joke!"

Ah, ya gotta love a native New Yorker who gives as well as she takes when playing before her hometown crowd. Although Bush is not popular in New York City, long a heavily democratic town, perhaps even Streisand's liberal admirers thought the skit went on too long. And the Bush character reportedly sang a song as well, which must have really frustrated an audience that had paid as much as $750 to hear her sing on what is her first concert appearance in NYC in six years. Streisand later apologized for her outburst.

No word if the bush skit will remain part of the act for her next concert at the Garden, or if it will be included in later Streisand shows.

Appropriately, perhaps, one of the songs she performed last night was an old standard of hers, "Don't Rain on My Parade."

I'm becoming increasingly

I'm becoming increasingly sick of celebritards babbling on about their opinions. Sometimes they're not even real celebritards, they're wanna be celebritards on local stages! I came to hear you perform, period. If you're a singer, sing. If you're a guitarist, make it cry for me. It was bad back in the 90's when Eddie Vedder rambled such incoherencies as "I used to wonder why a bottle of water costs 2 dollars. Then I read the name on the bottle backwards." Its horribly worse now that Bono thinks he should be the leader of Planet Earth while talking about himself in the 3rd person. She's just lucky no one started to throw shit at her. I would have. Not even to defend Bush so much as to just make sure she stopped talking and starting singing already. I mean, jeeze, they're paying about 50 bucks a song, right? Makes iTunes look like a bargain(and I never thought I'd say that!).

Three cheers for eholody. I

Three cheers for eholody. I hate Streisand. I don't think she's a very good singer, and her acting isn't much better. I can't believe she actually had an audience. There must not be much to do in New York once the Yankees lose.

Barbara is simply the best !

I don't like her politics but fans should chill and indulge Barbara. She has never hid her affiliations and was jus playin around. Long before I knew her politics I got goose bumps hearing her perform many times and still do. A pure natural who can put the E in emo. She makes you feel it.

Supposedly some of the money

from each ticket goes to a charitable foundation. All the reviews I've read were quite positive about the concert itself, and it was well received by the fans. I don't really care for her music, but she's one of the best performers of pop tunes and standards. Except for the too-long skit, I'd say the fans definitely did get what they paid for.

Three cheers for hecklers

It's becoming quite tasteless to make fun of Bush. It's boring, too. We've heard it all. $750?? Well, one way or the other they got what they paid for: crap crap and more crap.
