Basic Tips for Wilderness Survival

In an outdoor environment especially in the wilderness setting it is very important that we should know how to act and be prepared for possible eventualities that can happen. In most cases, it requires training and positive thinking to survive until help is available. Most survival skills are actually very simple, what is important is self control. Here are some things that a person must know to survive in the wilderness.
1. Don t panic, breathe and try to relax. It would give you a clearer mind to think on the best possible option or in planning your next move.
2. Give yourself first aid. The thing is, you should be familiar of basic first aid and other lifesaving techniques so that you will be able to provide yourself the necessary care.
3. Inventory your survival items since you may not know when search and rescue teams may arrive at your area. So it is important to have an inventory of your items and perhaps gather other items that may be available in the area for survival.
4. Assess any imminent weather dangers, this might be difficult to do if you don’t have a basic background on weather forecasting. Basically, the animals, such as birds, or frogs can be observed for possible weather disturbance. But for safety sake, the best thing would be is find a suitable place for cover in the event the weather may turn out bad.
5. It is also important to scout an open area where you could be seen by any search party or perhaps you can send signals to search parties.
6. Drink lots of water since water can prevent dehydration.
7. Make fire, but safely! Learn how to build fire in a variety of ways and how not to start a wilderness blaze in your quest for survival.
8. Find food, remember that you will not have strength and energy without food intake. So try to find edible food in the environment.
Before going any trip or camping or wilderness activities, make sure you inform someone, most especially the time of your possible arrival so that someone can inform the authorities if in case something happens to you!

Its not a problem anymore

Well, its a good thing nowadays that anyone can purchase a GPS device. With this things, you will not be lost. Unlike before that we have to use standard maps and compass. Thanks for the comment. http://basiclifesaving.blogspot.com

Same Problem

I do agree with you. Its important to have those repellants in hand. There are places in our country that are infested with malaria infecting mosquetos. If not treated early, then it can be deadly once you are infected. Well, its also important to know what to expect when you go out in some camping or wild areas to prepare ourselves for any eventualities. Thanks for the comment. I have visited your site xombytes but will comment later since I have limited connectivity! http://basiclifesaving.blogspot.com

Completely Helpless

I'm afraid I would be completely helpless in the wild. My sense of direction is bad enough as it is - in the wild - it will be hopeless. Thanks for the tips.

Survival

When you are out in the wild no matter what the circumstances, it is always good to have some sense of what you would need in case of emergency. Up here in Northern Ontario, one of the first things you pack is insect repellant - fugitives have given themselves up to authorities after a night in the bush because of mosquitoes and blackflies (I'm not kidding! True story), one ended up in emerge. because his bites were so severe. Another thing is a compass...Thanks for the tips never know when we'll need them:) +1 Get Paid $$$ to Write!
