Bears, BEARS, and more bears :)

Bears, BEARS, and more bears :)

I lived in Alaska for last 28+ years, and of course around fishing time is when the hungry bears come
out to fish also. They will be seen along every stream and river (even in town) in Alaska this time
of year, so if you are in that area make sure you know how to deal with them, if you should
encounter one.

I have seen quite a few bears in my time but, don't have any scary encounters with brown/grizzly
bears, had to scare of few black bears out of our campsite but that was it.

In Alaska the bears are very active right now so i thought I would share a few things with you all.

Alaska 'bear man' ready for his international close-up
By Craig Medred | McClatchy Newspapers
ANCHORAGE - Alaska could have a new international celebrity: a nearly 70-year-old retired
school teacher who has spent the past two decades hiding from the public eye in an effort
to conceal his intimate love affair with a large gang of black and grizzly bears.

Anytime! don't like ppl who take advantage....

Of tourists! i mean jeez your already there spending extra $ at the stores etc ... they will try and get more and more .... haha all you need (unless you want a cruise ship) is rental car, tent, and a map :) enjoy yourself in your own time. It is really nice :) In case you get stuck in Anchorage and you must throw your line in the water .. be sure and find Ship Creek, I myself (didn't get to weigh it) caught a 41" king salmon out of there. (black bears may be lurking there) take your time and enjoy :) “Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. Thank you

Thanks a lot!You are being very helpful. I will keep those places in mind when I'm going to Alaska. Actually I love fishing too, maybe I'll meet up with your brother and catch some salmon:-)

Martin123's bears :)

Heya Martin, Well yes there are a few popular places, if you like to fish also while bear viewing you can find the Russian River down on the Kenai Peninsula, mid-June till Sept. is a good time to see them. They are pretty much use to people there, not like you want to go pet one (*lol*) but i mean people and bears pretty much respect each others space there. That is the free way to view them. Your guaranteed to see one or more there. There is also a "lottery" type of deal for Alaska's McNeil river.... here is a link with all the info: http://www.wildlife.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=mcneil_river.apply but you have to pay for that ... last two years we were able to watch that set (McNeil River) of grizzlies live on cam National Geogrphic website, I happen to be on a old computer since I am not home in Alaska and I cannot watch from this puter but you might be able to, there is past video there to watch also. The link: http://video.nationalgeographic.com/video/wildcamgrizzlies/about.html Hope that all helps, any more questions I will do my best to answer. I do have friends down there on the peninsula, my brother would be glad to take you fishing etc ... if your really interested. He goes to the Russian River alot and can show you where to see them, and how to catch a nice Red Salmon or two :) “Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. Bears

Thanks for the links, I love bears they are my favorite animals! I also love the movie Grizzly Man, although I don't agree with Timothy Treadwells actions. I dream of going to Alaska to watch Grizzly Bears in the wild, hopefully I will go within the next 2 years. Do you know specifically where to go to view bears in the wild?
